Brutal SLR McLaren Wreck in Qatar
By John Coyle
Editor
Details are sketchy, but this terrible accident occurred sometime early yesterday morning Qatar time. A 22-year old was reportedly driving, and from the size of the debris field, it’s clear the car was going extremely fast when it occurred. The driver didn’t make it, and there’s no info on whether or not he was carrying a passenger. If more details become available, we’ll let you know. For now, check out the rest of the pics after the jump. via LamboPower

This Just In: New on the Net
For a short week, this one has seemed pretty long. Honestly it feels like it’s been a month since Monday. But maybe that’s just because I’m a poopy-pants whiner. Anyway, here’s the news:
- Personally, I think the SLR McLaren is a good looking car, but it doesn’t really make me get all weak in the knees or giggle like a school girl. But the final gen SLR? Wow! If these spy shots are any indication, when I get to see one of these babies in the flesh, I’ll probably wobble, giggle, and then just pass out for good measure. Auto Express
- With gas prices hovering somewhere in the stratosphere, the General is looking to bring the adorable Chevy beat to its home turf. Is this a good idea? Um, is the Pope Catholic? Go for it GM, people will buy it. Promise. Freep
- He keeps trying to get out—but they keep pulling him back in! Or maybe it’s not like that, we’re not sure. What we do know is that Michael Schumacher will be racing in this weekend’s Tournament of Champions in England. Last time, he almost took the checked. Motor Authority
- A new report suggests Ma Mopar might be looking at hard times in 2009. This of course different from current conditions at the automaker, where everyone is too busy sniffing roses and drinking wine to think about anything that far in the future. Automotive News

Take this test to find out what supercar best suits you. The first time I took it I got the Mercedes Mclaren SLR, which almost made me barf. So I re-took it and got the Koenigsegg CCX. Now that’s more like it!

Viper Smokes Veyron
By Rob

Road & Track recently held a 0-200 mph shootout at the Naval Air Station Lemoore in California. They brought a Lamborghini Murcilago, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, a Ruf Rt 12, a Lingenfelter Corvette, a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and a Hennessey Venom 1000 Twin Turbo. The Lambo and Benz couldn’t even make it to 200 mph and were sent home. So who was the quickest? The $225,000 Hennessey Venom pretty much smoked everyone, including the $1.6 million Veyron, hitting 200 mph in 20.3 seconds. Hennessey posted some cool in car video (below) on their website. Steve Millen, the driver said, "Holy Hell! This is a wild ride. It just wants to go sideways in every gear." I guess 1100 horsepower will do that.
