McLaren MP4-12C Production Line
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
The launch of the McLaren MP4-12C wasn’t just about the on-stage presentation – there was also unprecedented access to the production floor where the prototype cars are being assembled, and where the first customer cars are due to roll off at the beginning of 2011. As a factory, it’s perhaps a little disappointing. Grease? Pools of oil? No. More like hospital levels of cleanliness; stark white walls, ceramic tiled floors and gleaming work surfaces. Everything is white and sparkling. McLaren’s approach: if it’s white, it’s either clean or it’s dirty. And everything has to be all clean, all the time. Continue reading at Speedhunters

McLaren MP4-12C Launch
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
March 18 turned out to be a pivotal day for the famous McLaren team. The day was marked for the launch of their new supercar, the McLaren MP4-12C – announced as a concept last year and now about to be unveiled for the first time in public at the architecturally stunning McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. But amazing as the car is in its own right, it also marked a huge shift for the team as they announced they were entering the shark-infested waters of becoming a car manufacturer. The MP4-12C is going to be the first in a line of McLaren street cars. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Jay Leno Gets the Scoop on McLaren's MP4-12C!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
When Jay Leno appeared on Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson called him the “world’s biggest petrolhead,” which is high and deserved praise for the former Tonight Show host. Leno probably knows more about cars than most of the people paid to work on them or write about them, so it’s always fun to watch when he gets serious about his favorite subject. Check out this clip where he heads over to McLaren’s Technical Centre in Woking, England and get’s the scoop on the company’s new MP4-12C.

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1965 McLaren and other movie cars
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
All this talk of movie cars this week has me looking through the Hemmings.com classifieds for more. I see some Bentleys and Rolls-Royces owned by movie studio executives, Miley Cyrus’s Mini, Bruce Willis’s 1988 Lincoln limousine, a 1960 Ford Country Squire that appeared in Oliver Stone’s “The Doors,” a 1950 Ford Country Squire that appeared in some movie I’ve never heard of, and all of Volo’s various listings (including, apparently, the actual Miami Vice Ferrari Daytona). McLaren BMW E21 Turbo
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
I’m sure most of you guys are aware of the short but fruitful linkup between BMW and McLaren that produced the F1 Supercar, but this was not the first time these two companies worked together. Back in the 1970s McLaren had an American based racing team that was used for its Indianapolis campaigns. It was this team which BMW charged with running its IMSA Camel GT campaigns for the ’77, ’78 and ’79 racing seasons. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Rear Wing Design – Sideways Gurney Flap?
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
I came across this picture of a racing spec 722 SLR McLaren Mercedes and I was a bit puzzled by the wing design. This is the first time I’ve seen a 90 degree edge like a gurney flap done on the end plate of a wing. I assume its functional due to the serious car its on and the fact that the car come equipped that way (not a user added piece).
Anyone have any insight on this?

Man Builds McLaren F1 in His Garage
By Steve Neill
Steve Neill
A fellow in Poland has decided to build his dream car in his garage. And so far, it looks like he’s doing a pretty good job. He managed to capture quite a few key parts of the original design, such as the center seating, the gullwing/scissor doors, and the angled suspension. He states in this forum thread that there have been other F1 molds, but he says no one has ever made a full exact reproduction. He’s even using a BMW V12! Check the forum thread for all the pics!
