A Quick JDM Van Fix

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

It’s been some time since a hot looking Japanese van has been posted here, no? Here’s a very tasty looking dark green Odyssey found in the vast Minkara archive. Oh Honda, if you could just import the J-Odyssey to the USA, that’d be swell.

Car Culture At Large

I think I speak for the majority when I say that I can’t get enough of Grant Scott’s AE71 Corolla. Here’s a nice little clip of the car set to the sounds of Hendrix.

Cortina GT on the Track

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

Gerald Elliot’s 1970 Ford Cortina GT has been outfitted race-built 2.3 SOHC tuned to make 240hp naturally aspirated. It also includes things like a Mustang T5 trans, a quick-change rear diff and some very racecar-like bodywork. As you can see in the photo, the car sees the track regularly.

The Boosted Pinto

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

I figured I’d quickly post about a car that played an important role in my teenage years – a ’72 Ford Pinto. Yep, a Ford Pinto , the car that’s infamous for erupting into a ball of fire with a slight tap of the rear bumper. While this hot rodded Pinto was about as shoddy as it gets, its turbocharged engine swap also made it one of the funnest cars ever.

At some point someone took the rusty, weather Pinto chassis and added a turbocharged 2.3 liter motor from an ’80s era turbo Thunderbird. I bought the car in 2002 for something like 1,100 bucks, and I remember road tripping down to LA with my dad and driving the car 250 miles home – choking on gas fumes the whole way. Car Culture At Large

Andrew from Motive DVD sent us some full-length video clips shot both in Japan and in Australia, and one of my favorites was this one featuring some late night street drift with the infamous Team BURST.

Check the clip to see some of Kansai’s best tearing it up on snow-lined roads.

Drag S15 from Down Under

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

While this Silvia might look like a time attack car, and is detailed enough to be a show car – it’s primary focus is the quarter mile. After being inspired by the drag cars of Japan, George and Theo Spartalis of South Australia’s GT Autosound set out to create one of the world’s quickest S15′s. Originally established as a car audio shop, GT Autosound is now known as one of Australia’s premiere Silvia tuning shops and they have experience building S-chassis for every application. Combining the build quality of pro drift car with the focus of a drag car was one of the George and Theo’s goals for the car, and they’ve certainly accomplished that. The Twisted Corona

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

If you’ve ever read Hot Rod Magazine in recent years, you’ll know there aren’t too many Toyotas to be found in its pages. However, a few years ago Hot Rod featured this wild Toyota Corona as part of its “Dare to be Different” theme. For the magazine to feature a Toyota means it must be something special, and indeed this car is. Built by Mitch Allread of Newhall, California, what was once a basic ’68 Corona sedan is now a street-going circle track racer that also happens to stay true to its Toyota roots.
