Strange Non-Pneumatic Tire Technology at SEMA
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
While wandering the Tire and Wheel area at SEMA, I found this interesting technology, developed for the military, that’s set to expand into more widespread everyday applications in the very near future. It’s a tire solution that was developed to prevent typical pneumatic tire failures caused by punctures, ballistics, or road conditions. This tire replacement has been in testing on the military’s HMMWV “Humvee” tactical vehicles–it’s meant to be a direct replacement for the standard tires currently used in “extreme” situations. New Honeycomb Humvee Tire is Bullet and Bomb-Proof
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I’m surprised we didn’t see these in the DUB booth at SEMA. Developed by Resilient Technologies and Wisconsin-Madison’s Polymer Engineering Center, these new honeycomb non-pneumatic tires can support a heavily armored Humvee, survive an IED attack, and still make a 50 mph getaway. They were designed to provide an alternative to the current run flat tires used by the military, which have often left troops stranded and vulnerable after being shot or blown out. Russian Sauna on Wheels
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
This inventor in Russia has converted his GAZ-66 military truck into a fully functional mobile sauna, complete with an 88-gallon tank and a wood-burning stove to produce the steam. A sweat session in the back of the GAZ will set you back about 40 bucks and change. Pics of the interior below the jump, but only if you can stand to see a bunch of pale shirtless dudes beating each other with birch leaves.

Import Tuner Cover Car On CarDomain
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
When I blogged about the Import Tuner Tribute to the Troops back in September, I didn’t realize that the cover car was on CarDomain. Turns out that Nicholas has been a CarDomain member since July of 2006. Nice work getting your G35 on the cover, Nicholas!
If you’ve had your ride on the cover of a magazine, drop me a line in my guestbook and let me know!
