Custom Gauge Pods and Plastic Restoration, Part 2

By David Belau

dartslantsix

I left off last time with a conundrum. There was a piece missing off my windshield pillar trim–how could I fix that? I have to give credit to my wife–she came up with a way to mold a new piece. Plaster of paris to the rescue!

New Edelbrock Classic IAS Shocks for My Mopar!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’ve had the same old Monroes on my Mopar since I got it eight years ago. But for years I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Edelbrock Classic IAS shocks–Mr. Angry swears by them on his rides–and I’ve been wanting to try them out. I especially like the looks of the gray Classic shock but the red Performer version is cool, too. Anyway, there’s lots more I have to do to my suspension–ditch the stupid helper springs and get new leaf spring, beefier torsion-bars, etc. But I figured shocks were a good place to start, and the Quaker State video series we’ve been running gave me the perfect excuse! Bolt on was super simple and the ride improvement was huge! Thanks to Rick at Group 2 Motorsports for the demo! A bunch of pics plus the video of the install after the jump!

Plymouth Road Runner Ads

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Chrysler may not have been the sales leader of the muscle car era, but they were certainly the fun leader. We found a great video showing a compilation of Roadrunner ads from 1968-what looks to be 1971. There’s some good Coyote fail footage here to giggle at. Acme products screwed him again.

The world is far too serious a place for any company to have the gusto to run ads campaigns like this anymore, which sucks. We wish we lived during an era that an ad man could belt down a couple martinis on an empty stomach, walk into a board room and pitch the idea of selling cars with cartoon characters.

You’d be jailed for doing that today!

Product Test: Thrush Welded Muffler

By David Belau

dartslantsix

My 1992 Dakota was in need of some serious exhaust work this past year. After 206,000 miles, the clamps had worn the pipe down to nothing. So this summer, I decided to replace the exhaust, but I also wanted to give it a bit of an upgrade.

I first started hearing about the new Flowmaster-knockoff Thrush Welded Mufflers about a year ago and was impressed by the price. After listening to a couple trucks on YouTube, I decided to try one for my truck. My local parts store charged me about $40 for part number: 17649. This is for a 3″ muffler, center inlet, offset outlet (in case you want to upgrade your Dakota too). See the full product review below the jump.

Limited Edition Mopar ’10 Challenger

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Dodge is going to be rolling out a run of 500 of these special Mopar-badged Challengers. While it appears to be primarily a trim package, each of these rides will also bring to bear some of the more popular goodies from the Motor Parts division’s catalog–the engine looks to be getting the Mopar bolt-on treatment, including the cold-air intake with the functional hood scoop, adding about 15 hp. The handling is stiffened up with strut bars and the Super Trac Pack, which includes beefier suspension components throughout. I dig the painted gloss-black wheels and the retro chrome T-shifter (automatic only–the manual gets a pistol-grip), and the blackout grille and hoodpins give the face a raw muscle-car look. The Mopar ’10′s will all come in black metallic, with the accent stripe in a choice of four colors. Pretty cool that it’s the first production Dodge to wear the Mopar badging. I’m glad to see the company rolling out enthusiast-targeted versions of their vehicles, and I’d like to see them go a little more aggressive–maybe some day we’ll get the 1320! Wintersun Rocks On

By Tony Castellano

Tcassa

The annual Wintersun festival has come and gone, and boy what a show it was! The rock ‘n’ roll event is held each year on Queensland’s Gold Coast, and is an absolute must for anyone interested in all-things American. The festival is now in its 32nd and final year, with government bureaucracy relocating the show 6 hours south, much to the disappointment of all those involved!

My family and I made our way down early Sunday morning to enjoy a nice breakfast before hitting the strip to view the muscle on show. The festival caters for all American muscle enthusiasts, with a variety of 60s and 70s Mustangs, Camaros and Mopars pulling plenty of crouds. I payed special attention to the hot rods that were on display, with my favorite being a beautiful 32 coupe that was near spotless. Plenty of pics after the jump!

Ten Coolest Car Hoods: Mopar FTW!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This week Jalopnik asked their audience “what’s the coolest car hood?” and then followed up with a top ten list. Mopar scored three of the ten spots, with the Shaker hood, the Viper hood and the 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Air Grabber hood below. And that didn’t even include the 69.5 lift off hood in their original post.

So what’s your favorite car hood?
