What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Despite some spotty weather I got out to the Mopars Unlimited Spring Roundup up in Everett. I think this was the 8th Spring Roundup I’ve attended with my ’66 Satellite. It rained on me on the drive there and on the drive home but the weather stayed relatively dry while I was at the show. Turnout was pretty decent, with a ton of old school and new school muscle. I’ll have pics and video up shortly. What did you do this weekend?

Cheap Paint Worth the Effort?

By David Belau

dartslantsix

Last summer my 1992 Dakota looked like just about every other neglected 1992 Dakota out there–terrible. Its paint was coming off in sheets. Coworkers complained that after parking next to me during a windy day, their own car received a new paint job.

After reading this thread on Moparts.com about Rustoleum, I decided to give it a try. I had never painted a car before, so how did it turn out? Continue reading after the jump!

The Hot Rod Power Tour 2010 is Less Than a Week Away

By Ryan Brutt

HemiPwr70

Well there is less than one week until Power Tour 2010. I spent today cleaning up the interior of the Challenger, conditioning the leather, vacuuming the carpets, etc. I also added the hood stripe and the extension side stripes on the Challenger. That should make it a little different then the other 99% of Challengers on the Tour. I also picked up a new Atlas as my last one got ruined. I hate GPS. Check out the Hot Rod Power Tour directions.

Also to get the most up to date information on the Tour, please follow them on their twitter site. And Chip Foose will be at the first stop in Newton, IA. I’m a big personal fan and can not wait to see him in person, even if I do just get his autograph.

I came up with a little idea, I’m going to have a balloon attached to my car. Something easy to see and noticeable. I don’t know what it will be, but when I find it I will post it up here and let you know.

Muscle in Melbourne

By Tony Castellano

Tcassa

Hundreds of American muscle cars were on display in the heart of Melbourne, Australia this past Sunday. The day long event, appropriately titled the American Motoring Show, included some of the finest iron this side of the Pacific. Rods, replica Cobras, Studebakers, and countless Pony cars to name a few were all fighting for the passing attention, with my favorite being a beautiful 1934 California Kid tribute. With a relaxed atmosphere, this turned out to be one great show! Loads of pics after the jump!

All Mopars, All the Time

By Mike Bumbeck

Clunkbucket

There are those who restore a car exactly as it came off the assembly line. Strategically placed paint inspection daubs and chalk marks are meticulously applied. The original-style hose clamps, painted only with the correct value and hue of semi-gloss or flat black paint, are located precisely on correctly date-coded radiator and heater hoses. The body-color paint under the hood has drip runs and sags that directly correspond to the degree of hangover the original painter had that Monday in 1971 when he was spraying the lacquer into the engine bay. On the other side of this equation are the people who simply don’t care. More of the Dodge Dart Charger Sport Swinger over at mighty Clunkbucket.

Mitsubishi Jeep Manufacturing Bonanza

By Mike Bumbeck

Clunkbucket

A never-ending search for a survivor first-gen Dodge D50-Plymouth Arrow Sport pickup truck combined with creative keywording of a local classified advertisements has unearthed another sort of captive import. Like the Dodge and Plymouth pickups, this 1974 Jeep is actually a Mitsubishi. Technically a Mitsubishi H-J58, the Mitsu-Jeep is a very near clone of its Willys cousin Jeep CJ3B. Mitsubishi manufactured all sorts of Jeeps under license from the Willys Jeep Corporation from 1953 to 1998–a 45-year run! Under the hood of this ’74 model is an early 2000 cc gasoline version of the mighty Astron series of Mitsubishi engines. The 4G52 cranks two or four wheels, and ran like a champ when we went to take a ride in the Mitsu-Jeep with current owner Steve Kopito over in Chatsworth, California. Steve is the proprietor of Owens Export Service, which has exported boatloads of American Jeeps worldwide, and imported quite a few Japanese automobiles back stateside. More on the Mitsu-Jeep along with a boatload of pictures over at Clunkbucket!

Sneak Peak: Samuel Hubinette’s 2010 Dodge Challenger Drift Car

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

You are looking at a shot of a 2010 Formula Drift car that almost didn’t happen. Samuel Hubinette, a two-time Formula Drift Champion who finished fourth in points last year had a trying 2009 season to say the least. First was the rather untimely bankruptcy of Chrysler that left his Nuformz Mopar/BFGoodrich team without sponsorship for the majority of last season followed by the tragic death of his team owner, Shaun Carlson just before last year’s FD finals.

But Samuel picked himself up and dusted off the tire bits and is preparing to come back with this 2010 Dodge Challenger that will include sponsorship from his longtime supporters Dodge and BFGoodrich. Samuel will also campaign the car under his newly formed eponymous Samuel Hubinette Racing team. But Samuel won‘t be the only driver on Team SHR as veteran rally ace Andrew Comrie-Picard will drive the team’s iconic Dodge Viper SRT-10. Hit the jump to see more pictures and a rough video of this car, which is very much still a work in progress.

Hotchkis Suspension Track Day

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

One look at the picture below and you can instantly imagine the rumbling of all that Detroit metal. Each of the three cars give you a completely different sort badassery. The green Plymouth Valiant is classically sophisticated, the yellow Dodge Challenger is a rugged badass, and the Viper is just pure, raw, gut wrenching power. The guys at Hotchkis Suspension held a track day at Willow Springs International Raceway and invited Speedhunters to come and drive their various selection of tuned muscle cars.
