The Complete Book of Dodge & Plymouth Muscle

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok, so I was pretty darn excited when I opened up the box from Motorbooks and saw this new Mopar book by Mike Mueller. I really like the way the book is organized, the pics are great, and I was especially happy to see production numbers listed for all the models. Usually I give these books away in the blog, but this one’s mine! More pics after the jump, along with a video of the cool spin wheel cover. Definitely worth a look for all you muscle car fans.

Zach Wins GTO: Pontiac’s Great One

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

We got some great entries for our little book giveaway of GTO: Pontiac’s Great One by Darwin Holmstrom. Picking a winner was very difficult, but we’re going with Zach AKA Esoteric18

I would love this book becuase , my love for Pontiacs was given to me by my father who regrets everyday, the time he sold his 68 LeMans to help the family survive through the rough times. He spent several years adding mods and whatever he could afford before he sold it. It was simply his pride and joy and if given this book I would give it to my father as a gift. To show he did the right thing even though to him it didnt seem like it.

Congrats Zach, hope you and your dad enjoy the book!

GTO: Pontiac’s Great One by Darwin Holmstrom

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Motorbooks just sent me a copy of GTO: Pontiac’s Great One by Darwin Holmstrom. Stephanie, our resident Pontiac maniac, immediately stole it off my desk, so I’ve barely had a chance to look at it. Still, it looks amazing. We’re talking a huge $50 coffee table book with 336 pages of incredible photography, containing just about everything you might want to know about the GTO. Given GM’s announcement on Monday, the timing of this book couldn’t be any more… well, you get the idea.

So anyway, I’m giving this book away. If you own a Pontiac (any Pontiac, doesn’t have to be a GTO) and have a ride page for it on CarDomain, leave a comment telling me why you deserve this book. I’ll pick a winner and mail it out on Friday.

More pics after the jump!

Hot Rod Garages by Peter Vincent

By Rob Einaudi

The kind folks at Motorbooks send me a lot of books. I don’t always have time to read them (heck, I don’t always have time to read half the stuff in the CarDomain Blog), but I always flip through the books to check out the pics. And this one has some of the best pics I’ve seen yet. Motorbooks also sent me a bunch of photos from the book to use in this post, which I’ve included below the jump. These are from the shops of legends like Pete Eastwood, Rolling Bones, Roy Brizio and Vern Tardel. Enjoy the pics, and be sure to check out Hot Rod Garages at your local bookstore.

Hemi Muscle Cars: a Coffee Table Book That Will Crush Your Coffee Table

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Hemi Muscle Cars by Darwin Holmstrom weighs 5.9 pounds and most of that is photographs. And they are great photos (I’ve pasted about ten after the jump). This book covers the entire history of the Hemi, from the first production cars of the early 50s to the modern LX platform cars. I should point out that the book is printed in China, which could be a deal breaker for some old school Mopar guys. But if you can get past that, love the Hemi, have $50 burning a hole in your pocket and own a burly coffee table, I would definitely recommend this book.

Traditional Coach Works

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The good folks at Motorbooks have started sending us books to review. We just got their recent title The Legendary Custom Cars and Hot Rods of Gene Winfield, which is super cool (expect a full review later when I get my act together). But the pics of an old brochure for Traditional Couch Works in the introduction really caught my eye. I’ve seen a few of these Cadillac conversions over the years but didn’t know the story behind them. Turns out that author David Grant first came to know the legendary Gene Winfield in the early 70s, and while he was in high school Winfield got him a job working with him at Traditional Couch Works in Chattsworth, California, where they did all sorts of wild conversions on Cadillacs. Gene took the young David under his wing and taught him how to shave emblems, shape metal, hammer-weld and metal finish. Sounds like a pretty cool guy. I drove a ’77 Coupe DeVille for most of my high school years, and love the idea of a Caddy "Sports Wagon" or "Estate Wagon." Apparently Evil Knievel purchased their first "Mirage" Sports Wagon, which can be seen in the movie Viva Knievel! One more pic of the brochure after the jump.
