DUB Tour Rolls Into Charlotte Tomorrow
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
I’ve been desk-bound—or um, not—since getting back from SEMA way back in November, which kind of sucks. Last year at this time? I was flying all around the country and seeing all kinds of wicked stuff! Oh well. I went to a bunch of DUB shows last year, and while I never stuck around for the music, I’d make an exception for the Charlotte stop. Lethal Injection was in my CD changer for years, and I’ve never gotten to see Ice Cube live. If you’re in the area he’s worth the admission alone.

Where Did Car Songs Go?
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
Back in the mid 50′s through the late 60′s, when rock and roll was in its infancy, singers like Jan and Dean, The Beach Boys, and Ronny and the Daytonas sang about how cool it was to own a fast car. Hell, the Beach Boys even sang about just the engine in their song called “409″. Go to any car show and your sure to hear other songs like: Little GTO, Little Nash Rambler, and my favorite, Hot Rod Lincoln by Charlie Ryan and the Timberline Riders. You’d be hard-pressed to hear anything that car-crazy come out of your radio now. Instead you only hear about cars in a single lyric or chorus line of a rap song like in “Get Like Me” by David Banner, in which he asks,” Have you ever seen a Chevy with the butterfly doors?” The only song about just a car I’ve heard recently was by the rapper known as Tum Tum. His song “Caprice Music” is not an artistic masterpiece, but at least it’s a start in the right direction. Oh and the car pictured below is the actual Model-A-bodied “Hot Rod Lincoln” 4 Star Records had built to promote the song. Now that’s cool!

Anyone Else Still Listen to Tapes?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Ok, I admit I don’t even have an iPod. Our Subaru has a CD changer but the old Volvo and the Mopar have tape decks (and the one in the Mopar eats tapes). Thing is, I haven’t really had a workable tape deck in my house for years, so all my tapes are from the 80s and early 90s. But that’s pretty much what I listen to in the car, cause most of the time the radio sucks.

Driving Music
By Steve Neill
Steve Neill
I was driving home yesterday, and on a whim, decided to stop at my local CD store to buy a new CD. Nothing new, unfortunately. So I got back in the Audi, made a call to my friend, met up with him on a corner of Bay St. in central Toronto, and he gave me the new Kanye West CD, “808 & Heartbreak.”
Man oh man! This music is chill vibes! I loved Kanye before, but this is something really new. Almost every song is a great driving song, and I’m enjoying it a lot. I have quite a few favorite driving songs, and now I have a favorite driving CD.
What do you like to listen too when you drive?
