Tom Peters: Intuitive Design at Chevy

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

Interviews don’t get much better than this: I sat down with Tom Peters, Design Director for Rear Wheel Drive Performance/Corvette/Full Size Truck, and got a lesson on mental preparation for drag racing. Peters likened the mental and emotional clarity needed for a perfect pass to the zen state designers need to be in when creating cars and trucks. Any disturbance in the force can find itself onto a car, and people see it immediately. This ability to intuitively find the right line for a car is what drives good design, and is one of the things that Bob Lutz has given GM designers the freedom to put to work. More on Peters’ comments about taking on Full Size Truck after the jump.

Blue Whale? Blue willy? Either way, I’m not interested in Hyundai’s electric concept.

NAIAS: The Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Reveal; Old news, but we like it anyway.

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Before the Cadillac XTS Concept reveal, Cadillac had a kick ass introduction for the CTS-V Coupe. We thought you would like to see it. Welcome to the future of General Motors in which Chevrolet and Cadillac have become the performance divisions. The CTS-V in its current configuration could compete with the Challenger SRT-8, the Mustang Shelby GT-500, or even the Camaro for outright performance. It’s that good! More pics and video after the jump!

NAIAS: The Cadillac XTS Platinum Edition; Livin’ Large Cadillac Style

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

I knew that there was suppose to be a new Cadillac revealed here at the Detroit Auto Show, and I was hoping it wasn’t another crossover. There were hints that the new Caddy will be the replacement for the ancient DTS (which really started as the DeVille), as well as the slow selling STS. Well, it was a real surprise, as this really looks like a competitor to the imports like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Jaguar.

2010 WRX STI Special Edition

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Subaru unveiled this car in LA, but this was my first look, and I thought it was pretty cool. For $2,000 less than the base price of a Subaru WRX STI, you get JDM STI spec C wheels and suspension. Of course Subaru had to cut somewhere, so you end up with halogen headlights instead of HIDs. Sound comes from a single-disc CD player with a 4-speaker system instead of the 6-CD and 10-speaker system in the standard WRX STI. Manual air conditioning replaces the automatic climate control, and side mirrors come sans integrated signals. This is a limited production vehicle, and the first 125 with only come in Aspen White. More pics after the jump!

NAIAS: The Sad Sad state of Chrysler; A Special Edition PT Loser, er Cruiser

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

This is the poster-child for what is currently wrong with Chrysler. It’s another special edition PT Cruiser, a car that was suppose to be killed off a year ago. The only thing forward thinking with this car is the deep red interior. If anything, this show signals the return of reds for interior appointments. So what do you think?

Amphibious CT&T, Quick and Normal Charge!

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

The Chinese are nothing if not proud of their work. I have no idea what we would do with an electric amphibious vehicle, and I’m not even sure it’s a good idea to have one, but CT&T does. I think it pairs with their quick and normal charge station. Better than slow and abnormal. Pic of that after the jump.

NAIAS: The Morgan Aero Supersports; A Modern Morgan!

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Morgan unveiled a new updated Morgan, the Aero Supersports. This is one bizarre car, as is anything that comes from one of the last British-owned car makers still in business. The Morgan has a 4.7L V8 sporting 368 HP, 370 Lb/Ft, with a top speed of 170 MPH. All of this is from the manufacturer, so I will only believe them if they furnish a test drive (Hint, Hint).

VW NCC Interior Shots

Once the hordes cleared out, I got in there and snapped some shots of the interior. Very CC. This should be a hit. More after the jump.

NAIAS: The GMC Granite Concept; Compare this Granite to a Mack Granite!

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Well, I was at the GMC and Buick press conference, and I really have to say that it was rather pointless. On top of introducing a new version of the Acadia crossover (now with more bling!) and a sportier version of the Buick Regal, the GS (further information on this later), they introduced another crossover concept, the Granite.
