WRC Update: Rally New Zealand Review

By Evan

What a weekend! With over 300 km of competitve stages, the New Zealand rally offered enough gravel to pick out of your teeth for days to come. The weather held off and the light gravel stages made for some pretty impressive driving and some very interesting tactics. On the first day, Jarri-Matti Latvala slowed before the last stage of the day to force two cars ahead of him to clear a lot of the loose gravel. And again, on the second day, rally leader Sebastien Loeb played the same card to stick Jarri-Matti and Mikko Hirvonen with the onerous duty of "road sweepers." This first car or cars help to push the loose gravel out of the way for the trailing cars, leaving them with a much clearer line, better traction, and a pronounced advantage. More…

New Zealand Orange

Check out Earl’s beautiful 1965 T-bird. It’s one of the rare factory 427 ‘Birds from this year, and he’s had the engine out of the car for a while now for a re-bore, balance and blueprint, and a total build-up with lots of performance goodies. In the meantime, he’s also done a ground-up body restoration, and it looks like he’s recently picked up some perfect NOS trim for this awesome-looking ride. How he scored a 427 T-Bird in New Zealand is anyone’s guess, but it looks like he’s not the only one over there with the same ultra-rare engine package. Check out his ride page!

Toilet-Sitter Sent Sprawling by Runaway SUV

By Jen Dunnaway

A man in New Zealand was sitting peacefully on the can when and SUV rolled down a hill and crashed into his house, violently unseating him. A contractor working on the property next door had parked the vehicle at the top of the hill without setting the e-brake properly, and it rolled away when left unattended. Asked about how the contractor might feel about the incident, the shaken homeowner replied: "What about me? I got knocked off the toilet. I got a hell of a fright." Making matters worse, the poor guy is in the middle of trying to sell his house. Sucks to be him!

V8 Starlet

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Ken’s 1984 Starlet has a Toyota V8, Hiace differential, Corona front suspension and Altezza wheels and brakes. The new fiberglass flares make it look pretty darn burly. Can’t wait to see it finished!
