Here’s another “Euro”-styled compact car out of Japan, a Z11 Nissan Cube dumped on color-matched OZ Futuras. The boxy, yet organic style of the Cube lends itself so well to this sort of thing.

Somehow I don’t think I could convince my sister-in-law in to do this to her Cube in Japan…

Those of you who’ve been following our coverage from the recent Pro-Am Nationals at Irwindale Speedway will have noticed that Canadian Ian Fournier took the overall spoils at the wheel of his four door ER32 Skyline. Although this type of car is a fairly common site at drifting events in Japan, it’s rarely seen in North America. And this points to an element which differenciates the Canadian Japanese car scene from its American equivalent. Fresh-off-the-boat imported machines are quite plentiful in Canada, as any 15 year old Japanese car can be easily imported into the country.

So it wasn’t too much of a surprise when I spotted this clean RHD 1991 drift spec Onevia, at the Drift Mania West Event this past August in Victoria. For those of you who don’t know the term: Onevia is a mash-up of the words One-Eighty and Silvia. It refers to S13s which started life as Silvias but been converted to 180SX front ends. The GT-R in this clip is the only one in the states with GT3582R turbos, and it’s capable of 1300 horsepower. And while the car is tough as hell, the driver doesn’t sound so tough after he thinks he’s been popped at 160MPH. Damn, this is hilarious!

This is so bizarre. Last Friday, after I shot a few drift cars at Nikko circuit, I was on my way to the actual historical town of Nikko, to relax for a bit before heading up to Ebisu for the Drift Matsuri. As I set the Audi S4 I was driving on cruise control, l sat back and enjoyed some tunes from the crisp Bang & Olufsen audio system. After cruising for twenty minutes or so I suddenly had to hit the brakes and pull a U-turn. I couldn’t believe my eyes, I had just driven by an abandoned gas station with three neglected vintage Skylines lined up next to each other. I parked up and got the camera out. Here is one nice ride I spotted last month when covering the D1-GP final in Fuji Speedway. This extremely low BNR32 belongs to Ryusuke Kawasaki, the editor of Drift Tengoku (Drift Heaven) Magazine, the only publication you will ever need to read if you are into sliding around in cars! Doriten (the nick name of the mag) first came out back in 1996.
