Radical SR8LM: Lord of the Ring

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Well, the Gumpert Apollo Sport sure didn’t get much time in the spotlight. After a it made a trip around the Nurburging in a blistering 7:11.57, everyone—myself included—was calling it the fastest road-legal car to ever lap the ‘Ring. And while Radical’s Hayabusa-powered SR8LM—which sports a Le Mans prototype chassis—isn’t what you would call a grocery getter, it was actually driven from England to Germany to with the aim of breaking the Apollo’s record, and instead smashed it into a million little pieces. And while it might be time to lay out some rules which define what a road-legal car actually is—I mean, the LM chassis seems a bit extreme—it’s hard to argue with a time of 6:38. Watch the driver wrestle this baby around the circuit.

By John Coyle

With a time of 7:11.57, the Gumpert Apollo Sport is now the fastest road-going car to lap the infamous Nurburging, and this in-car video shows just how harrowing this track can be at speed. If you thought the clips of the ZR1, Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, or the GT-R were impressive, prepare to be blown away, because those cars are hiding under the couch right now. Put this on full-screen, crank up the headphones and enjoy.

Texas Shop Building V6 Camaro to Kick Nissan GT-R Ass

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

East Texas Muscle Cars, a Texas hot rod shop, has announced its intentions to build a 2010 V6 Camaro capable of running with and beating the vaunted Nissan GT-R on the Nurburging in Germany. The GT-R has been the apple of every clean-hands magazine and website since it first came to the US, and the car has backed up a lot of its heady performance claims by laying down crazy numbers on road courses (especially the Green Hell) across the world. The Nissan has whopped on stuff way out of its price range. Frankly, we’re pretty sick of hearing about it.

This Camaro, equipped with the Direct Injection V6 that makes a healthy 300hp stock, will be receiving several upgrades, the most important of which will be a turbocharger. Fiddling with these DI engines is a new frontier of hot rodding, so we’re interested to see how this whole thing works out. The company claims it’s going to ship the Camaro over to Germany with a GT-R to back up its claims once the project is finished. This could be totally awesome as the Camaro is sure to be seen as an epic underdog in this match up. Edmunds broke the story and has many more details here.
