Whatever your personal feelings about lowriders, the genre undeniably deserves props for being one of the longest-running current enthusiast cultures out there. And DJ Xscape’s candy-green Cutlass is an exceedingly photogenic example of its segment. See more at his ride page!

Mint Oldsmobile, Some Rust
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
I’ve never had to deal with serious floor-pan rust on a frame-off car before, but I’ve often been blindsided to find a relatively pristine-looking ride that’s actually rotting from the inside out. Like this alleged Hurst Olds on eBay–you’re staring right through the floor at the road!

Top Ten Vehicles That Need to Come Back But Can’t Because Their Brands No Longer Exist
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
We got a ton of comments on the list of “Top Ten Vehicles That Need to Come Back”. I didn’t include any of the cars below cause they are all from dead brands. But if we lived in an alternate universe, then yes, all of these rides would need to come back! See the rest of the list after the jump!

Olds Delta 88
By Jen Dunnaway

I’ve always loved the big-boat GM’s of the early 70′s, and Erik’s Delta 88 is one of the nicest examples I’ve seen. He kept it ultra-clean and stock-looking, with great attention to detail under the hood. Check out that gorgeous motor!

Is Your Car’s Fuel Gauge Idiot Light Programmed By Idiots?
By Sam Barer
Sound Classics
There are two types of people in this world: those who fear the lower half of the fuel gauge, and those (like me) who think low-fuel idiot lights are no more than a friendly reminder to hit a gas station sometime in the next week or two. And let’s just say that it drives my wife nucking futz, because she’s one of those “you never know when you’re going to have an emergency and need a full tank of fuel” thinkers.
Maybe that’s why she’s the doctor and I’m the automotive writer, but I digress…
The fact of the matter is that I’ve never run out of gas on the road. (I’ll admit that I’ve have learned the hard way that a couple vehicles I’ve owned have less than smartly-engineered fuel tanks, leading to no-start conditions even with four or five gallons remaining when parked at various angles on steep driveways…but to quote the legendary Del Griffith: “I won’t be held responsible for faulty engineering.”) The reason I never run out of gas is that no matter how close to “E” the needle is or how many miles it’s been since the idiot light came on, I still inherently know that I’m playing with way more go-juice than the car would have me believe.

Today’s photo comes from the ride page of Walter’s ’71 Cutlass, which looks damn dignified sitting in front of its gated-and-gargoyled barn/mansion. Got a pic you’d like to see featured for Photo of the Day? Drop me a line.

Vintage Road Test Video: the 1968 Hurst Olds
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
We’ve dug up several vintage road test videos from the classic television show, “Car and Track” during our time on the blog here, but this one may be the coolest. The 1968 Hurst Olds was an awesome car and today commands insane money on the market. This video shows one being thrashed by Jack “Doc” Watson of Hurst fame. Watson was responsible for cars like the Hemi Under Glass and you’ll hear him elude to a new project that Hurst was working on at the time. Can you say Hemi Darts and Barracudas?
As much as we love seeing these cars fry the hides in straight line action, watching them plow through the corners while host Bud Lindemann describes their wallowing performance as being “agile as a bobcat” is priceless.
Jack Watson is a rodding hero!

A 1971 Olds 442 W30 ‘Vert Gets Thrashed
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
With a total production class of about 30 cars, it’s rare to lay eyes on a real 1971 Olds 442 W30 convertible, so seeing one of these cars get thrashed on a road course, spun out, and thrown through the cones is a special treat. Thanks to a tipster we can share with you some cool old video showing a segment from Bud Lindemann’s “Car and Track” TV show. Watching the big Olds during panic stops is scary fun.
Whoever the test driver was for this show had the greatest job in the world. They really beat the hell out of this car in a multitude of ways. Our favorite parts are the moments when the car is tail out around the corners and frying tire all the way out of the frame. Torque is your friend.
Thanks to BangShift.com reader Scott Bares for the tip!

Hemmings Find of the Day: 1977 Oldsmobile
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
We’re not trying to favor any one decade here – really. I just happened to stumble across this particular Cutlass Supreme while looking to see how many Eighties G-body variations are currently on the market on our website. With an asking price of $8,440, here’s the seller’s description:
1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with 37,581 actual miles. Powered by the original 350 c.i. Oldsmobile V-8 engine coupled to the original three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Metallic Brown with an excellent Tan vinyl interior. Equipped with air conditioning, tilt wheel, power brakes, power steering, factory radio with a CD player that is discretely mounted in the glove box. It is also equipped with factory rally wheels, Tan half vinyl top, white wall tires, manual windows, manual locks, sport mirrors and factory exhaust … Mechanically sound with no known issues to date. The brown paint looks great for its age but does show some very minor blemishes. All in all this is a solid rust free Cutlass that will take you back to the look and feel of the late 70’s.
