Volvo 1800: Is The Wagon The Way To Go?
By Jen Dunnaway

The Volvo 1800, kind of like the Edsel Bermuda, is one of those very few-and-far-between cars that I feel looks better in wagon form than as a sedan. George has some great examples of these diminutive long-roofs on his ride page, including his own very clean ’73. Take a look!

Custom P1800 Worth 90 Grand?
By John Coyle
Editor
This customized P1800 is posted for sale over on ClassicCars.com. Personally, I think the ghost flames look awful, and the hood scoop and grill are also pretty lame. But this vintage Volvo does have a few things going for it. The stock mill has been swapped for a Chevy 350pushing a very respectable 420 horsesthe lipstick interior is dead sexy, and the wheels look sick. While the attention to detail is impressive, and the old Swede has been featured in Hot Rod and Super Rod, even with that pedigree, the seller’s $90,000 asking price seems steep. What do you think? Worth the money?

eBay Find: Dodge Challenger Wagon
By Rob

This wacky conversion happened back in 1973, so as the seller states, "get over it." The Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser roof definitely gives it a funky P1800 wagon vibe, and you know it would be fun to piss off purists at shows. Still, the auction ended with no bids, so maybe it will take a while for this weird Mopar to find a home. In another shot after the jump, it looks like it had a Daytona-style nose on at one point, which almost managed to make it look like a 300ZX.

Super-Clean P1800
By Jen

I’ll probably get a bunch of flak for saying the P1800 is the most attractive Volvo ever made, so I’ll keep my mouth shut about that. But my little sister is in town, and brought along her favorite P1800 book for beach reading, so I’ve had the sporty little Volvo of the 60′s and early 70′s on the brain this weekend. Fortunately, there are lots of great examples of P1800′s among our membership. Take a look at Chip’s ’67, with its sensible suspension mods and updated ignition. It’s a gorgeous car with great custom touches inside and out, including the prancing moose badging, which seems to be some kind of inside joke among Swedish car owners. What’s up with that?
