Fireball's "Cool Designs of the Week"

By Fireball Tim

Movie Car Design Master

As with most weeks, I got cool stuff sent to me. “Hey Fireball! Whatta ya think of my (fill in the blank).” And with that kinda traffic coming at me, I get the privilidge of seeing the best of what’s out there. Sort of.

Well, not all of it is lip smackin’ goodness. Some of it is downright cheese of the Limberger nature. But, without more dumb explanation, here’s what’s cool in design this past week. And no, you can’t buy the Phat Boy Can from me. It’s on “special order” from Iceland.

THE BUGATTI BORDEAUX

Big and beautiful, but they’re only building them for the richest MoFo’s on the planet. So, if we get to “see” one, it’ll cost about 10K.

Power Tour 09: Pacer vs Pacer

By Chris Allen

Motorfanatics

There were actually three Pacers on the Power Tour in 2009. Ours, a somewhat beat-up 77 station wagon, and a built 76 coupe with a Mopar 440 under the hood. We had actually met the 440 guys two years ago when we did our first Power Tour, and this year they came back with a fully rebuilt car. From day one we knew that there was going to have to be a Pacer on Pacer showdown, and on the final day at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, TN it went down. Full story at MotorFanatics

Power Tour Day 4: Homecoming

By Chris Allen

Motorfanatics

Today we set out for Detroit from South Bend. I was looking forward to being somewhere familiar, but I soon remembered why I moved to Cali. Crappy roads, horrible drivers (alright, SoCal’s no better there), and humidity. I do miss all of the American iron, and boy was the meet at Metro Beach chock full of classic iron. Easily the biggest yet, it was nice to have the sun out over acres and acres of cars.

Power Tour Day 3: Shop Day

By Chris Allen

Motorfanatics

Today started out where no Power Tour participant wants to be…the shop. As I had mentioned yesterday, when we arrived in Racine we noticed that the alignment on the Pacer was WAY off. Could have been the hammering at the drag strip, but somehow a few of the adjustment cams in the front suspension slipped and the front tires looked like they were ready to fold over. We woke up early and busted out the Yellow Pages and made a call to the guys at Alignment By Klamm in Racine, WI.

Power Tour Day Two: Gettin' Rollin'

By Chris Allen

Motorfanatics

We woke up today to even more rain. Great. Cold and rainy, we made our way to Alliant Energy Center and as I mentioned yesterday, the weather did not deter ANYONE from making it out. Once the rain let up, we walked around and checked out some of the other participants including a gorgeous Buick Riviera, a dialed in Cuda, and ANOTHER Pacer. That makes three friggen Pacer’s on the Power Tour…but ours became the first to drag race today!

Rambler Love: Hemmings is Full of It

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

This past Sunday, the Wally Parks NHRA Museum at Pomona was host to the 3rd annual Socal AMC gathering, a show so big that we haven’t seen its like since there were still AMC dealerships (speak for yourself – DS). The bulk of the interest was around the AMX and Javelin models, but there were still Ramblers, Gremlins, a Concord, a Pacer, and the most gorgeous restored Hudson pickup we’ve ever seen. As a bonus, if you were part of the show and entered a car there, you got to go poke around the museum for free. Sweet! Read the rest of the story and check out a bunch more pictures over at Hemmings.

Hot Rod Power Tour: Me Too!

By Chris Allen

Motorfanatics

So with Ryan posting all these Power Tour posts lately, I’m starting to feel a bit like a slacker.  Why?  I’m covering the Power Tour as well!  That’s right, this year CarDomain has two intrepid travelers embarking on the Tour of Power, making this THE place to get your Power Tour updates if you can’t make it (even if you can, check to see if we caught anything you didn’t).  I’ll be flying out from LA on Friday night, arriving in Chicago at 12:35am where my dad is going to pick me up in the Pacer (pictured with my dad below) on his way through. We’ll be staying in Rockford that night and heading to Madison the next morning.

Purple Pacer Girl

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I read about Anna Beth and her awesome AMC Pacer in Hot Rod last year. She and her dad built it up with a stroked Jeep 4.0 and have taken it on two Power Tours. Well, looks like she recently became a CarDomain member! Check out her ride page!

Coolpacer at Woodward!

By Katherine Helmetag

AKA atomicalex

CarDomain member Coolpacer warned me that his dad would be showing off their 1978 AMC Pacer project in Ferndale, MI as part of the Woodard Dream Cruise festivities. And sure enough, John Allen, Coolpacer’s dad, was on hand to give me and my sons a tour of their blacked-out, hopped-up AMC. The custom dash they built caught my attention—it’s got everything you need to keep things cool when you’re running hot. Their build pages have tons of detail about the car and the time they’ve spent together on it. The only thing missing from this ride is a CarDomain sticker! More Pacer pics after the jump, and don’t forget to check out the ride page.

Excellent: Wayne's World Pacer on eBay

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Hey: if you’re gonna drive a Pacer and have to put up with all the Wayne’s World jokes anyway, you might as well just run with it, right? Up for sale is one of the original Wayne’s World Pacers formerly owned by Paramont. Okay, so it didn’t actually appear in the film (the flames look a bit wrong, from what I remember), but served as a prop for one of their theme park rides. It runs and drives, but has been sitting in a museum for a few years waiting for a new home. Party on!
