Great Parking Job

By Jen Dunnaway

Speaking of the Motherland, check out this awesome curbside mishap in Russia. The cool thing is how almost completely unscathed the VW is. If I had this cool a story to tell about how I got one of my parking dings, I’d probably leave it unrepaired. Follow the jump to check out the damage.

If it Looks Too Good to be True…

By John Coyle

Since I’ve spent many hours cruising around Seattle looking for parking, I’ve learned to become overly suspect of totally empty parking lots. Generally, if there aren’t a least a few cars there, it’s because there’s a good reason. Of course, there’s a really great reason nobody is parked in this area, which becomes apparent immediately.

Is It Ever Ok To Take Up Two Parking Spaces?

By Rob Einaudi

This question was asked recently on VWVortex regarding exotic cars. I’ve seen a lot of SUVs taking up two spaces. The note below killed me. What do you think? Is it ever ok to take up two parking spaces?

Coolest Parking Garage Signage Ever?

By John Coyle

Editor

Parking garages are some of my favorite structures, because there are few things more awesome than bombing the ramps on a skateboard. And while I’ve been inside tons of them—legitimately and otherwise—I’ve never seen one anywhere near as cool as this garage in Melbourne, Australia. Axel Peemoeller came up with the killer signage, which along with looking wicked, should insure nobody ever gets confused about how to navigate it. Four more pics after the jump.

Tight Parking Spot

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

VWVortex member eggman95 posted this hilarious pic in a thread in the car lounge. Apparently, his buddy decided to take action when his favorite parking spot was encroached upon by a SUV.

So when I got home today the parking spot that I love to get was half occupied by a jackass in an old japanese suv. I was in the infiniti which I consider a beater although it is not that bad and figured I would take the half parking spot anyway. I parked literally inches away from the jackass. I am hoping that maybe when he can’t get into his car he will realize how much of an ass he is. I am also hoping he doesn’t break a window or something in the infiniti.

Sadly, the outcome was a bit of an anticlimax…

The guy didn’t move his truck all night, so my friend just drove off in the morning when he went to work. An unfunny conclusion.

Obsessional Fanatics' Guide to Parking

By Jen

AKA SusyBruisy

Since having both my cars painted, I’ve become pretty neurotic about parking them. Nothing triggers my fight response like returning to my spot to find some other jerk’s car crammed up against mine, especially when I’ve gone out of my way to park far away from everyone else. Sean’s blog on vigilante ticketing really spoke to me–I’ve terrorized my neighbors with angry notes and highway cones, and I once even pushed a car with my Eagle over several feet of gravel after warning the owner repeatedly to quit parking right up in my face (she didn’t, after that). While I’m not too proud of my short fuse and I’d certainly never damage someone’s car in anger, protecting your own ride’s finish from other people’s idiocy can be an uphill battle–it seems that nothing short of making them think you’re a raging psychopath seems to get the message across. That’s why it was refreshing to find Parking By Design, a site on parking “strategy” that turns the question of where to leave your ride into a precise science. The author offers a scoring system for parking spots and lectures methodically on how to make the most of nearly any space, applying a philosophy of “risk management” to the parking jungle. While some of the advice is a little Captain Obvious, there are some great tips and photos, many supplied by the site’s readers. Mostly, it’s just reassuring that someone can be so calm and constructive on a subject that never fails to make my blood boil.
