Arlen Vanke’s ’68 Super Stock Barracuda For Sale on eBay
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Wow, this thing is gorgeous. It’s in absolutely immaculate condition following a two-year resto that left all the important bits in place–like the last set of tires that Arlen Vanke raced it on. In 1968, the Super Stock option was a race-only package put together by Mopar, with so-equipped vehicles being shipped to the Hurst plant for final assembly. This one’s got the 426 Hemi built by Vanke himself with the crossram intake and dual-quad Holleys along with an epic list of other performance goodies–it required a factory-relocated right-hand shock tower, master cylinder, and battery just to accommodate all the hugeness. It’s amazing to think that back in the day, if you had enough money you could walk into a dealership and order one of these. More incredible still is that Best of Show Automotive now wants $1.1M for this historic Barracuda. Will they get it? Check out the auction here!

Lamest Part or Accessory That You Ended Up Keeping?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Ever buy a used car that had a part or accessory that you swore you’d remove immediately, but ended up keeping? My old ’70 Fury vert had one of these goofy chrome barefoot gas pedals. My first plan was to get rid of it, but I ended up just thinking it was funny and left it alone. I wonder if it’s still with the car after all these years…
How about you? What’s the lamest part or accessory that you ended up keeping?

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1954 Plymouth Belmont
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Last I knew, this was owned by a lovely woman in New Jersey, but now the 1954 Plymouth Belmont concept car seems to be in the hands of a Lotus dealership on Long Island and for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description:
This exercise incorporated many features unique to Plymouth at the time. The sleek Belmont Concept Car rode on a Dodge Chassis and was powered by a 241 cubic inch motor delivering 150 Horse Power. The Belmont was the first Plymouth ever built with a V8 engine. Further, this experimental car was the first ever built with a lightweight fiberglass body. It has an overall length of 192 inches and a height of just 32 inches at the door top. The motor was mated to a Plymouth Hy-Drive three speed semi-automatic transmission. Other unique design features include as a full set of racing instruments as well as radio controls built into the center armrest. The car was shown at the New York Auto Show in 1954 as well as other significant shows and events around the world in the period. It was also the co-star of a couple of feature films including Bundle of Joy with Eddie Fischer and Mister Cory with Tony Curtis. After completing the show circuit it was owned for many years by Virgil Exner himself.
No price is given, so I’m guessing the sellers are waiting for Joe Bortz to come along and make them an offer. See more pics at Hemmings

’66 Plymouth Pro Touring Concept
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Mike Musto sent me the link to this awesome ’66 Plymouth pro touring concept created by Reuben Zammit. I’ve been toying with ideas for my ’66 Satellite, and was thinking of going the pro touring route, especially after seeing the Ring Brothers Fairlane at SEMA last year. Either that or something slightly more NASCAR. Or should I go more Sox and Martin? Of course, I’m sorely lacking in money and time, but if anyone wants to sponsor a build, lemme know…

Fake Hemi ‘Cuda Owned by Beach Boys Member Al Jardine Briefly Seized at Barrett-Jackson
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Apparently bidders are not the only ones who scrutinize the cars at Barrett-Jackson. The police get in on the act too and their involvement led to the “recreation” ’71 Hemi ‘Cuda of Beach Boy Al Jardine to be impounded over suspicion that the car was actually stolen.
According to a story on Abc15.com, red flags flew when police noticed that the VIN on Jardine’s car did not match the number on the title. As it turns out, the car was stolen at one point in its life and the VIN tag from the dash was never recovered.
Some time later, the car was sold to a person who lived in Iowa. When they bought it, the new owner applied for a new VIN. which was granted. The original title was never amended to show the new VIN number and that brought on the confusion at BJ.
The police investigating the car were able to get the answers they needed and the car was allowed to re-enter the auction fold. Knowing now that Al Jardine has this pretty bitchin’ car, we’re wondering what else is in his personal garage.
Jardine tours with his own band playing Beach Boys songs, while Mike Love and Bruce Campbell tour with their own minstrels playing the same stuff. Even after all these years those boys still can’t get along!

Jay Leno and Don Prudhomme Check Out the Hot Wheels ‘Cuda
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
There are few cooler guys or cars on the planet than Don Prudhomme and his killer restored 1970 ‘Cuda flopper. It is the car that launched the Snake and Mongoose rivalry that packed drag strips from sea to shining sea for years and launched Don Prudhomme and Tom McEwen into super stardom. In this video, Jay Leno and Snake check out the car and the incredible transporter it rides around on. Ace tipster Darr Hawthorne pointed us in the direction of this video.
The interesting thing that not everyone may know is that this tandem, the car and the truck, are going up for sale at Barrett Jackson this winter. The truck, as you will see in the video, carries the original crew shirts, Prudhomme’s original driving suit, and a spare, period correct Hemi. This one will probably be the highest bid item at BJ 2010. It is going to bring a fortune.

I loved this ‘Cuda when I saw it at SEMA, but honestly, I assumed it was built more for show than go. Well, I guess I was wrong!

Bonus Hemmings Find of the Day – Half a Fury
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
The only thing I’magonna say about this 1970 Plymouth Sport Fury currently for sale on Hemmings.com is that, traditionally, Six Pack refers to Dodge’s triple-carb setup, while Six Barrel refers to Plymouth’s version. Offered for $45,000 out of Renton, Washington. From the seller’s description:
1970 Plymouth Sport Fury GT, super rare V code 440+6 car, PH23VOF143370, has original fender tag, door sticker and broadcast sheet, car is black with black int and white strobe stripes, column shift bench seat car, still wearing whats left of its original paint and is 1 of 11 known real V codes, now the bad, car needs total restoration! car is rusty and was wrecked in RF early in life, non original but correct F 440 HP block and 3410672 6 pack trans, have complete 6 pack set up, have lots of NOS for the car, including some sheet metal, H 70-15 polyglas tires, trim lenses etc, probably the only V code fury GT in this color combo.. this is a big project but once restored will be the only one on the planet like it..so if you are seeking that car that is so elusive most dont even know of their existance this may be for you.
