An Edible Porsche

By 993C4S

I’ve seen Porsches covered in gold. I’ve seen Porsches covered in Tweed. Hell, I’ve even seen a Porsche 911 thrown in a crusher in the name of art. This, however, is the first time I’ve seen a Porsche covered in chocolate. Created by a Porsche dealer in the Netherlands, this is not a standard Porsche option.

Lithium Ion Battery Powered Porsche GT3 RS

By 993C4S

Porsche Purist

No, no, no. It’s not what you’re thinking. Looking to shed a few extra pounds, from an already lightweight set-up, Porsche gives buyers of the 2010 911 GT3 RS a new “electrifying” option. At 22 lbs lighter than a conventional led-acid battery, Porsche’s optional Lithium Ion power pack is designed with the track in mind.

With a normally aspirated, 3.8 liter, 450 HP (that’s 15 more horses than the normal GT3), 8500 rpm redlining engine, expect this beast to be tearing up the local track of anyone that can afford the almost $140k entry fee. For more info, check out the full release and details on the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The Panamera Push

By 993C4S

The launch of the Panamera is getting closer and closer. In just a few weeks, the new five four door will be available to the general public at home in Germany. Not too long after that (September time frame) they should start showing up at a Porsche dealer near you hear in the States.

Not unexpectedly, and of great benefit to enthusiasts like me, Porsche is putting a big push behind the launch with press events, new Panamera pictures, videos, etc. The video below is the latest from Zuffenhausen that does a great job showcasing some of the incredible new technology offered in the Panamera. Can you pick out some of the new features that are prominently subtly displayed in the video below?

Evolution of the Porsche Speedster

By 993C4S

There are times when a picture is worth so much more than a 1,000 words. In my opinion, this is one of them. Today, we were working on a photoshoot at SloanCars to document the evolution of the Porsche Speedster. If you can’t tell, that’s a 356, a 930 and a 964. See the second pic after the jump!

Kirk Hammett's (of Metallica fame) Porsche For Sale Again

By 993C4S

Porsche Purist

Here’s a Porsche that just won’t go away. A little over 14 months ago the 1990 Porsche 964 C4 was listed for sale by Metallica’s former tour manager. Now, more than a year later, this 911 (previously owned by Metallica’s Kirk Hammett) is once again for sale on eBay but with a slightly reduced still absurd price.

Here’s the problem. While I’m a Metallica fan (I grew up listening to them) they just aren’t the band they used to be (fame wise). That’s not to say they don’t still have tons and tons of loyal fans, I’m just not sure anyone of them is going to pony up the $10k or so premium being asked for this car. Call me crazy but I don’t think the “autographed gas charge slip” is enough to justify a significant premium on what is otherwise an ordinary 1990 964 C4. Check out the listing and you be the judge.

Balls of Steel

By 993C4S

Whatever this guy is on, I want some! The more I watch this, the more I’m amazed. Let’s see, car coming at me at 100+ mph, I think I’ll take one step back, suck in the gut and turn and take some pictures. Are you kidding me? Watch his hair get blown back! How is he not a quivering mass of jelly standing in a stinky pool of his own fear?

How Do You Avoid Speed Cameras? By Destroying Them!

By 993C4S

Porsche Purist

I hear a lot of noise lately about red light cameras and speed cameras. As a public service, I decided to conduct research and answer the most common question I’ve heard. Are they constitutional? Are they effective? Are they nothing other than automated revenue generators for the city and towns that install them?

What I found out was, who cares? What most people want to know is how can you avoid them and what can be done about them? Turns out, there are a ton of products on the market for avoiding these things, but the best option I’ve seen so far comes directly from my favorite automotive personality, Jeremy Clarkson.

Watch the video below and see for yourself. If you’re interested in the answers to any of the other questions check out 993C4S.com on Friday of this week when I post answers to all these question and a list of resources for locating and avoiding the cameras, and more importantly, the fines that go along with them.

Porsche Panamera

By 993C4S

Porsche Purist

After all the build up and hype, Porsche has finally and OFFICIALLY released picture of the 2010 Panamera. If you’re an automotive fan and haven’t been living in a cave, then chances are you saw some of the pictures by now.

Love it, hate it, or indifferent, it doesn’t really matter, this is the car Porsche’s producing (let’s face it, we’re probably not their target market anyway). I for one (and I know I’m in the minority) like the Panamera, at least at first glance. What remains to be seen is how the car drives, feels and performs once behind the wheel. Hey Porsche! When are we getting our shot at the media fleet?

Tamiya 911 GT3 VIP Cup

By 993C4S

I’ve been a fan of RC cars since I was a young kid. Anyone who has been in my garage can attest to the fact that this hobby quickly became an obsession. My RC fetish includes both electric and nitro version of on and off-road cars, boats and motorcycles. I have no favorites, they are all loved equally.  :-)

Recently, I had the opportunity to test drive a Tamiya 911 GT3 VIP Cup in the Ready to Run version. As someone who has built a lot of expensive kits and modified them highly, I wasn’t really expecting a ton from this car. Wow, was I ever surprised! With a very reasonable price point (about $200 for the RTR version and $150 or so for the kit), this car is a great entry-level choice, especially for the Porsche fans out there. I threw together a quick video of my test and you can see for yourself after the jump. Once you watch my hack job of a video take a look at the next video and see what can be done with this car with a few choice mods (to turn it into a drifter).  Enjoy!

Forget About Porsche, Have You Seen the New Smorsche?

By 993C4S

I participate on a lot of different social media sites. You can find me on Facebook, Linkedin, StumbleUpon, Digg, etc. Besides meeting great people who are interested in the same things as me (namely all things Porsche) I occasionally get good fodder for blog posts.

Maybe you’ve seen this Fiat that was morphed into a 996 look-a-like (for real). Well, check out the pictures below courtesy of “Kostenlose” over on Stumble. This is one of the funnier and better uses of Photoshop that I’ve seen in a while. Just to show I can be fair and balanced I threw in a Lambo, Ferrari and Corvette for your viewing pleasure.
