Porsche Panamera Prototype Interior is Hot… Not!

By 993C4S

For the past day or two there have been pictures of a Porsche Panamera Prototype popping up all over the net. The nearest I can tell is that they started on a Chinese automotive site (at least they watermarked them and took credit for them), they then got posted over at TeamSpeed.com and the linking took off from there.

Forget about the fact that the Panamera is potentially both ugly and expensive, look at this interior.  I’m beyond loyal to Porsche, but even I’m having trouble coming to grips with this. All those buttons look like the Batmobile on steroids.

The guys over at Autoblog think this interior is “caliente” and even go so far as to say it hearkens back to the days of the 993. I’m not one to throw stones, but in this case the target is just too big. I’m so shocked by their analogy, I can’t even come up with a witty response except to say, WHAT???

Look at the pictures below and you be the judge.

Who or What Caused the Porsche vs. Nissan Rivalry?

By 993C4S

Prior to the GT-R bursting onto the scene, Nissan and Porsche were not competitors. They serve(d) two completely different market segments. They have little to no history as competitors in motorsports and until the introduction of the Nissan GT-R to the US, Nissan was not really thought of as a sports car company (and no, I’m not forgetting about earlier Datsun and Nissan Z cars). Why then is there all this commotion about Porsche vs. Nissan? Are we, the online and print media, the reason for this rivalry? Or, was it part of the Nissan marketing plan all along? My '73 911T

While it was probably the poster of the 930 Turbo, on the ceiling over my bed, that started the relationship, this 1973 911T (with S option package) was my very first Porsche and was the first tangible step into a love affair that has spanned more than two decades and is primarily responsible for my obsession today.

Purchased on a whim without knowing nearly enough, I got very lucky. With only two previous owners and 40k original miles with original paint and interior, this is one special car. Finished in classic silver with guards red interior, she comes complete with the S Option package (includes S interior, S gauges and Cookie Cutter Wheels). Factory installed a/c, power sunroof and front spoiler delete.

What was it that first got your juices flowing for your favorite brand? For that matter, what was it that got you going about cars in general?

What’s Your Favorite Automotive Sound?

By 993C4S

Porsche Purist

If you can’t guess by the name I write under, I’m a bit of a purist—a Porsche Purist that is. What does that mean you ask? Simple, I like my Porsches stock, straight from the factory, just as the good doctor intended. If it’s good enough for the boys from Zuffenhausen, then it’s good enough for me. I don’t need all the fancy aftermarket mods and tuner upgrades that are so rampant on today’s market. It’s just not why I like Porsche. I’m here for the history, the quality and racing heritage (not to mention the gorgeous ass of my 993 C4S).

That’s why it came as such as shock to me that I was so enamored with the video below. You see, once I come down off my soapbox, I remembered that one of my favorite sounds in the world is the music made by an air-cooled Porsche six cylinder (preferably with Varioram technology) singing along at WOT. A close second would be any F1 car screaming through the gears as they navigate a chicane. With that said, listen to this Carrera GT with aftermarket exhaust from EVOMS. Granted, we’re talking about a 600+ hp 10 cylinder engine here, but the exhaust note is like a beautifully orchestrated symphony of sound. Even a purist like me can appreciate a mod like this. What’s your favorite automotive sound?

Extreme Porsche Pumpkin Carving

Looking back it seemed like a good idea, maybe even a great idea. Now, I’m not so sure. I’ll let you be the judge. I was surfing around the other day and saw Jen’s post on the Challenger pumkin. I thought, hmmmm, I wonder if I could do that with a Porsche? Man of action that I am, I fired off a quick email to Paul Chenard asking if he could put something together for me. Paul responded almost instantly saying “no problem,” and a couple hours later the design below arrived in my mailbox. Continue reading…
