By Rob Krider

Racerboy

The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Western Endurance Racing Championship (WERC) held Round 5 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Drivers punished their brakes in the midst of a dark three hour on-track battle. This was the last round before the championship finale during the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in December. Check out the coverage at Jalopnik. Photo by Vanhap Motorsports Photography.

The Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

Car Domain members looking for a place to race your ride where the Po-Po won’t mind? How about a very famous place, like Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca? Oh, you don’t have a racing license to compete there? That has already been resolved. The Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge is a seven hour enduro at Laguna Seca and if you and a few friends have been to at least two High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) events and your car can pass tech inspection, you can compete in one of the seven classes (everything from ChumpCars, ALMS cars and even Hybrids). A full write up on the logistics of the event can be found at Speed:Sport:Life or by going to the Dawn 2 Dusk 500 Challenge website at www.d2d500.com. Photography by Jennifer Brotchie.

Lamborghini Gallardo Vs. Porsche 911 Turbo

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

When comparing modified beasts of European lore, many aspects of each vehicle are to be considered. Watching the following clip, what do you think is the main attribute the winner has over the loser? Both are within comparable modification levels, and the only real difference is the transmission type. Thanks to the slush-o-matic  found in the Porsche, I believe it is at a definite disadvantage over the manual transmission Lamborghini. What do you think?  Is it the driver’s fault or the difference in transmissions? Read more about the comparison at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Video of Fiery Lambo Crash in the Czech Republic

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

I posted about the aftermath of this horrendous crash yesterday, but that footage didn’t show the actual wreck. When it hits the wall, this Gallardo goes up like a Roman Candle. Be warned: the still images at the end of the clip are graphic.

He’s a Winner in My Book

By John Coyle

For drama, it’s hard to beat crossing the finish line upside down and on fire, but Kyle Prokup definitely gets points for style. After he came into the last turn a little too hot during a kart race in the Mid-West, he pulled it out and managed to roll across the line backwards. Who cares what place he came in?  Bravo, Kyle. Read all about his racing on his blog.

Video: Ferrari 599XX Laps Nürburgring in 6 Minutes, 58.16 Seconds

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

The 599XX is a 700HP, weapons-grade version of the 599GTB, and it drops Modena’s luxury appointments in favor of race-ready features like plastic windows and a roll cage. Ferrari says this run is a record for a “production-based” sports car,  and while it might be technically right, this Cavallino isn’t street-legal and ran the lap shod with slicks. So you can make your own decisions about whether this “record” is that big of a deal, but regardless, this video is sick.
