Opening Day At DirtFish Rally School

The incredible DirtFish just opened its doors yesterday, and they invited Rob and I out to the wilds of Snoqualmie to take a look around the place and thrash on some cars in the mud. It’s a rally-driving school that covers over 300 acres of former Weyerhauser property–with a skid pad, dirt and gravel trails, slalom, the bumpy “bone yard,” and huge pools of standing mud–and even creepy crumbling old mill buildings to complete the ambiance–this is pretty much the place on earth you’d want to turn yourself loose with a 280 hp Subaru. Targa Trophy Bay Area Rallyfest Results

Targa Trophy was held last weekend running Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches and other high-end machines through 300 miles of twisty San Francisco Bay Area back roads. Teams went through checkpoints and competed for time and most accurate odometer mileage through the course. You can read the full pre-rally coverage or final event results on Jalopnik. Brake Failure Sends Rally Car Spectator Bowling

Amazingly, no one was hurt in this video, but man they came close! Apparently the car in this video suffered a brake failure of some kind, causing it to overcook the corner and head right toward a truck ringed with spectators. They all jumped out of the way, some flopping down what seems to be a grassy hill. This is another example of just how risky some of the viewing areas on a rally course can be.
Pay close attention to the driver and how he manages to spin the car around just before certain impact with the truck. He probably did it to save the car, but it may have bought some of these spectators the millisecond they needed to get the hell out of the way!

Rally Car Flips, Wins Race Anyway

This is why we love rally. Patrick Richard and his navigator crash their Subaru at Round 3 of the Canadian Rally Championship but instead of throwing in the towel, they flip their car back over and go on to win the race! We love how calm Alan Ockwell remains during the accident and patiently waits for the car to be turned back over.

Epic! Nissan Micra Takes Flight

Jumping over a public road and into the tree ridden abyss is by far one of the craziest things I have ever seen. This takes much more than skill, it takes pure testicular fortitude. The Nissan Micra is by no means a safe vehicle to be flying like a squirrel through the trees, but low and behold they did it!
