Retro Rides Camaro Headed for Oz

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Those of you who have been following the build of Jeff’s Retro Rides Camaro in the blog or on his ride page may be interested to know that the car is currently on a boat headed for Australia. After Jeff got the car all sorted out mechanically, he loaded it onto a container, along with a ‘69 Camaro RS and a ‘64 Chevelle. Jeff promises to post more pics once the car arrives in Melbourne and receives its new orange paint and houndstooth interior. But for now it’s bon voyage!

Supercharger for the Retro Rides Camaro

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Jeff just got a Kenne Bell supercharger for his Retro Rides Camaro. The manual is nearly 3/4" of an inch thick and has over 700 steps, so this won’t be a quick weekend install. So far Jeff has removed the intake manifold, cleaned up the intake ports and taped them up, and removed the knock sensors and valley tray. The Kenne Bell kit cames with a new billet valley tray so he went ahead and installed that. We keep you posted on Jeff’s progress!

New Wheels For The Retro Rides Camaro

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Jeff just picked up news wheels for the Retro Rides Camaro he’s building. They look pretty sweet! From his ride page:

I finally got around to picking up the custom wheels for the car and can’t wait to get some tires and mounted on the car! They are 18" x 8" and 18" x 9" polished outers with a brushed center for a unique look to them. Tire wise, going to go with 265/35-18 up front and 285/40-18 out back (or perhaps 295/35…still deciding). They look cool sitting on the garage floor for the moment at least!

Retro Rides Camaro Progress Report

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

My buddy Jeff (AKA OzHemi) is making great progress with his Retro Rides Camaro (a ‘69 Camaro with a ‘99 drivetrain, dash, wiring, etc.). He just finished doing the hide-away headlights. The ‘69 used a vacuum system from the factory, but there was no room for it all with the ‘99 inner structure, so Jeff built his own electric setup, using motors from a ‘67 RS. It took some time to get everything mounted properly and to sort out the wiring, but it works like a champ. Check out this video of the headlights in action!

What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Rob

Sean and John got stuck in I5 traffic trying to get to the LeMay Museum. And OzHemi got his Retro Rides Camaro running (sans radiator) and conducted a quick test of the LS1/6 speed combo out in front of his house.

What did you do this weekend?

Not For the Faint of Heart

I don’t know about you guys but wiring scares the hell out of me. But not Jeff, who is making great progress with his Retro Rides Camaro. Here is the stripped wiring loom from the 99 Camaro that is going into the 69 Camaro. Click through to his ride page for more updates on this cool project.

Retro Rides Camaro

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Jeff and his Aussie business partner Pete were trying to track me down at SEMA last year when they stumbled on the Retro Rides booth. Pete had recently acquired a 69 Camaro and was already thinking LS1 swap. So when they saw the Retro Rides concept, the light bulbs went on and they struck a deal right then and there. Retro Rides came out and picked up the 69 Camaro shell and promptly did a Stage 1 conversion, which gets the first gen shell ready for the fourth gen retrofit. Jeff and Pete got the body back from Retro Rides a few weeks ago and Jeff has already started in the conversion, which involves tearing apart a perfectly nice 99 Camaro donor vehicle. Jeff has promised to keep us updated on the build, and we’ll be tracking it in the blog. But for now check out his ride page to see the progress pics. This is gonna be one wicked Camaro!

This build is giving Dan some ideas about his 69 Firebird vert. What do you guys think? Should Dan go for it?
