Wacky Wedding Road Trip, Powered By Ford

By Stephanie Porteus

HotRodHoney

Recently I picked up an edition of MY Ford magazine (a magazine Ford owners receive after the purchase of their new vehicle) and read a most peculiar love story. Initially, it followed the standard format: boy meets girl, they fall in love, they decide to get married. But then things took a turn for the unique. Read more…

What Are You Doing With Your Cars This Summer?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Sure, most of us are gearheads year round. But at the same time, there’s no denying that summer is the Season of the Car. Road trips, car  shows, top-down cruisin’, and wrenching in your driveway out in the sunshine all belong to the balmy months, which for many parts of the country still seem an eternity away. Still, with all the road trip plans I’ve heard from people in the last week or two, it seems that anticipation is reaching critical mass pretty quickly this year, and before you know it, another hot rod summer will be upon us. It seems like gas is cheaper, the economy’s turning around, and there’s a ton of car-related stuff to do. So what are your plans? Getting your rides out of storage? Hitting up some cool car shows? Got a crazy backyard tear-down planned? Driving down the coast on a freshly-rebuilt motor? We want to feature your adventures in the blog all summer long, so let’s hear about ‘em!

I Be Trippin…

By David Clarke

highspeedhijinks

Stupid lingo aside, I’m getting ready to go on my first road trip of the summer. Well technically it’s still summer, but I’ll be heading to Pittsburgh, PA on September 10th from Albany, NY which rounds out to about 1000 miles there and back.  I’m going there to see the Steelers home opener with two die-hard Steelers fans to watch the game and to watch the Superbowl Championship ceremony. My trip itinerary includes driving down I-90 west into Buffalo, NY where we’ll be picking up one of the two fans, and then promptly heading back onto I-90 where we’ll eventually hit I-79 South into Pittsburgh. And what we’ll be taking this manly roadtrip in, none other than a dark gray 2007 Hyundai Elantra Sedan. Chosen for its maximum gas mileage and a minimum comfort. This is gonna be fun. Have you taken your road trip yet, if so where did ya go ?

Help Plan Mr. Angry's Road Trip Across America

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Mr. Angry is once again embarking on a cross country journey. This time from he’s running from NYC to Reno, Nevada for Hot August Nights and then onto Monterrey, California for the Concours at Pebble Beach. The thing is, he hasn’t finalized his route yet, and he wants your help. Ideally, he’d like to hit as many tracks, car shows or cruise nights as possible, and would love to meet up with CarDomain member along the way. In fact, he’ll have Mr. Angry t-shirts to give out to anyone who manages to track down the ’68 Charger. And of course he’d love to caravan with anyone who’s interested. Check out this thread at DodgeCharger.com and then let us know your route suggestions in the comments below. The road trip starts Saturday July 25 and of course Mike will be documenting the journey right here on CarDomain!

Road Trip! Beautiful Queens, NY to Hilton Head, SC and Back!

By Mike Musto

RideLust.com

I’m feeling kinda bushed right now as I just got home from a 2,000+ mile road trip to South Carolina. Before my departure I was thinking about what car to take, my 1968 Charger or my 1997 Mercury Villager AKA “The Danger Van.” Honestly, I had reservations about taking both cars. The Charger has been stone reliable all these years and there really is no reason that something should go wrong, but it is 41 years old compared to the van’s youngish 12 years. Plus, the Charger has no A/C. Then again, the van has 130,000+ miles on the clock, and in reality was bought just to haul parts around for $2,500. But I do do all the maintenance on it religiously and it has cruise and A/C, so I figured what the hell.

Road Trippin'

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Well, it’s not like it’s summer yet on the West Coast, but we’ve had a few balmy days and enough sunshine to make anyone want to hit the road. Last week I did just that, since I was dying to put some miles on my Concord‘s new tires–so I took a quick trip up to Vancouver, BC. Not exactly a long haul–Vancouver’s just a couple of hours away from Seattle on the I5–but I hadn’t yet taken the Concord on any kind of out-of-town trip since I’ve owned it, and I was curious to see how it would behave on its new meats and all the upgraded suspension parts I’ve put on it over the last couple of weeks. As it turned out, the mini road trip was lovely and the Concord drove like a dream. And there’s nothing quite like getting out on the open highway to spend some quality time with a car you’ve put some work into.

How about you–has road trip season started for you yet? Where’ve you been so far this year, and what did you drive?

Gearhead Destination: The Blue Ridge Parkway

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

A while back we told you to go check out the Tail of the Dragon, an amazing stretch of road that will test your nerve and your ability to toss your junk through the corners. Today we’re sending you to another stretch of road. This one is called the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is among the most beautiful and enjoyable sections of macadam in the United States.

The road was started as a Depression-era WPA project in 1936 and was technically finished in 1987. It runs for nearly 500 miles from Virginia to North Carolina and along the way you’ll see amazing views, historical sites, and best of all, lots of curvy roads with elevation changes and the type of sinewy goodness that you dream happy dreams about.
e
There are 26 tunnels along the way that were hewn straight through the rock that stood before the road builders. There are also nearly 200 bridges. The highest point will put you more than 6,000 feet above sea level. The speed limit is on 45 mph but we’ve heard that the route isn’t teaming with smokeys so leaning into the loud pedal for a few curves may not cost you an arm and a leg.

Hit the official website to get the info. This would be a perfect way to spend a vacation with your family and hot rod.

Cruising The Oregon Coast In A 2009 Challenger R/T

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Everyone who’s driven our 5.7 L hemi Challenger agrees that this car is dying to be out on the open road—with its girth, its power, and its interior visibility issues, this Mopar just isn’t very happy in the city. Dugging around in second gear at 30 mph is torture—this car just wants to go! So I picked up my boy Chris and we hit the road for the Oregon coast, one of the most awesome stretches of highway in the world. The Challenger agreed—and once it was out of traffic and out of sight of the law, the car was more fun than I ever could’ve imagined. More…
