1400 Horsepowing and Counting…
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
I was on the phone just now with Andy Barnes from the UK Time Attack/NFS European Drift Series and was discussing our plans for AWD month with him. He suggested I look up this brand new Evo 8 drag car run out of the UK from an outfit called JR Motorsports… The AWD 1400bhp car has been built to a target of 6 seconds if you can believe that… Madness! We are going to need to send a Speedhunter round their shop to see what this car is about.

Does the name Andy Sapp ring a bell to you? People in the US drift scene will know him for his Atlanta based BMW drift car…. but automotive fans about the world should also note that Andy has recently put together quite a slick looking automotive web project called Motor Mavens. Have a look…. congrats to Andy and his team for the successful launch of the new site! Continue reading at Speedhunters

A Visual Study of the Reventon
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
While I was at the Lamborghini Museum the other week, I got rather transfixed by the Reventon… I have never, ever seen a car which works with light and surface the way this design does (those of you who’ve seen the Reventon in person will know what I’m talking about). So I thought I’d shoot a group of photos which allows you to experience this car in some fashion too. It’s really worth a closer look. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Insane 20B RX3
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
Jason Joaquin from Barbados has recently been sending us emails about a Pan-Caribbean series called the CMRC or Caribbean Motor Racing Championship. It consists of three rounds: the Jamaica meet is on May 24th, this is followed by round two in Barbados in August and finally the championship concludes in Guyana in November. There are some pretty wild cars running in the CMRC like this 20B powered RX3 along with a whole host of hotted up tarmac spec ex-rally cars.
I’ve heard the ex-AMS unlimited Evo is in the Caribbean now…. looks like we’ll need to uncover this scene in more detail! Follow this link for a taste of the crazy cars running in this series.

Twins Turbo Shop Tour
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
A few hours after I got back to Long Beach, from Pomona and the SO-CAL Speed Shop, I went out with Marc and Eric from Twins Turbo Motorsport to taste some fine local cuisine at their favourite Korean restaurant. The Twins are rather clever, politically minded people, and the conversation is always quite spirited and interesting… So unless you have some debating skills in your arsenal, it’s perhaps best to keep the subject on cars! Air Ride Golf and Diatribes About Civics

Car Culture At Large
I have a theory I’d like to run past you lot…. please bear with me, as I’m working out my thoughts as I write this… it’s a bit of an experimental premise and needs some feedback from you. Here’s the thought: The Honda Civic and the Volkswagen Golf have had somewhat parallel histories and comparable positions within certain factions of car mod culture. Both started out life as small FF cars, in 1972 and 1974 respectively, and each developed some big followings over the years in different parts of the world. However, the parallel pathways have become more divergent in recent years. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large
Late last week, I noticed that Detroit- based photographer Pat Daly’s Facebook status stated he was going to be heading out to the Detroit Autorama. I immediately pinged him to see if he could grab some snaps for Speedhunters… This is one of the world’s most important car shows, so it’s essential to get a least a bit of coverage on the site no? Thankfully, Pat agreed to send a few pics my way. Continue reading and see all the pics at Speedhunters!

Norris Designs SWB EVO at the Autosport Show
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
After looking around the Autosport show (most stalls were still being set up) my jet lag was getting to me so I sat down to rest at the EDC/Time Attack booth…. But within a few minutes I heard this intense engine sound edging in my general direction. To my surprise, this wild Evo9 appeared along the carpeted walkway… The freshly rebuilt Norris Designs Time Attack SWB Evo. The car maneuvered into its parking position at the EDC/Time Attack booth but I could only gape in awe. This, ladies and gentlemen is, simply put; the wildest Evo on the planet. Erg I seem to be in the grips of permanent jet lag. Every day this week, I’ve woken up at 02:00 AM on the dot…Bleck….. However, this does allow me to get some blogging done on Speedhunters, which I suppose is good for you lot, our cherished readers….. hey, so I thought I’d start out my Autosport Show coverage by talking about the journey from London to Birmingham. This was an event in itself hahaha. Continue reading at Speedhunters
