Dealership Owner Flips '09 Challenger in Fatal Wreck

If you got here from the newsletter, you’re probably looking for this story on the twin-turbo Gallardo.
A 30-year-old owner of a Dodge dealership wrecked a new Challenger (not the one pictured) in the early hours of Monday morning. Tanner Odom, who wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene from "multiple blunt-force trauma"—and the Challenger demolished several utility poles before coming to rest upside-down. Odom had assumed ownership of Big ‘O’ Dodge after his father died in a motorcycle wreck only five years ago. Full article and news video here.

Convertible Rollover Mania!
By Jen Dunnaway

The Truth About Cars found this fantastic crash-test video by national German car club ADAC, demonstrating that (surprise!) enduring a rollover accident in your drop-top would amount to a major headache. You don’t need to be fluent in German to figure out that the joy-riding dummies are the ones who lose when modern Euro-convertibles go barrel-rolling across the deck, even when there’s tall rear roll bars to buy them a little extra headroom. Too bad, because as the temperatures this weekend in Seattle soared into the balmy 80′s, I was almost thinking of resurrecting my long-forgotten K-car-convertible scheme. Of course, if I drove one of those, rollovers would be the least of my worries. Check out the footage!

Michael McDowell Survives Unbelievable Wreck With Style
By Jen Dunnaway

NASCAR’s Car of Tomorrow is built to be stable and safe. During qualifying laps for the Sprint Cup race on Friday, it proved to be at least one of these things when rookie driver Michael McDowell got into a gnarly wreck that quickly escalated into a terrifying series of midair barrel-rolls. The kicker? When it was all over, McDowell was able to climb out of the demolished Toyota and wave to the fans before walking to the ambulance under his own power. He was even able to pull off a pretty respectable performance in today’s race, which was only his second-ever Sprint Cup start. How’s that for crash safety?

Remember that Taco-Bell-tray burnout video we showed you awhile back? Well, this is a great illustration of why you shouldn’t do everything you see on CarDomain Video. One more time: kids, don’t try this at home!
