Top Ten Vehicles That Need to Come Back

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Most of these vehicles should never have disappeared in the first place, but all of them need to come back. Now. Let me know what you think of my list. What did I miss?

Ford Bronco

I really don’t know what Ford is waiting for. Seems like a no brainer to me.

See the rest after the jump!

Buick Grand National-Powered RX-7

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

The seller threw out the junk rotary engine that came with this RX7 and started from scratch. The little 2800-lb Mazda is now powered by the same 4.1L six cylinder that Buick ran in the early Grand Nationals, topped off by a Turbonetics T70 along with methanol injection and a Dodge Viper rear end geared to 3.08. Ten-second quarter-mile runs and 30 mpg on the highway? Not bad. Check out the auction here.

Video: Formula Drifters Tear up Hollywood Blvd

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

Tonight Hollywood Blvd went up in smoke. No, it wasn’t the premier of the long awaited remake to the Cheech and Chong Classic (see: Express, Pineapple). The smoke enveloping the touristy Hollywood and Highland area was of the spent tire variety from the likes of BFGoodrich, Falken and Nitto. And it was all part of a drift demo produced by Formula Drift. Hit the jump to see how and why FD scorched the Walk of Fame plus some quick videos from the event.

RE Amemiya Genki RX-7 Show Car For Sale

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

Following up from yesterday’s blog post on our offering of the RE Amemiya 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon main show car, today we’re talking about the Genki RX 7. The FD3S RX-7 titled Genki was RE Amemiya’s 2009 main demo car for Tokyo Auto Salon. This car represents the future and is Amemiya-san’s vision of where he wants the RX-7 to go, given the fact that the FD3S is long since over as a production car. This car features proven and trusted RE Amemiya power modifications helping it reliably push 500hp range, an overall balanced tune perfect for circuit and street use, and one of the most unique aero kits perhaps any of us will ever see. I never realized how clean a FD would look without a spoiler. It really shows the timeless design of the Mazda FD.

Veilside RX-7 vs. Hakosuka Clone: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I figured it was time for some import tuner love in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown. The Veilside RX-7 is a magazine quality FD with $50k in mods according to the seller. And the Hakosuka Clone looks sweet and has lots of authentic JDM touches. Oh, and both of these rides are John Naderi approved. So, which would you choose?

RE-Extreme VER II

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

This is a car I’ve been meaning to feature for a while now. It was built by my friend Russ, the man behind the RE-Extreme blog, the place to go to for the latest news on anything and everything related to the RX7. Before Russ got rid of this, his second RE-Extreme project car, we met up in the Tokyo Bay ready to immortalize his very unique ride. After much searching we ended up at a Hotel in Tokyo Disneyland, which provided a very nice, yet very un-Japanese backdrop!

Before embarking on this project Russ took lots of time to think about what direction to go with his FD. One definite requirement was to be as original as possible choosing a good mix of bits and pieces for that bespoke look. There is no denying the FD3S is by far one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars ever to come out of Japan, without even beginning to consider the possibilities the aftermarket offers. Flick through the pages of the Hyper Rev series of books dedicated to this shape and you will be surprised at just how many body parts are available, a list that keeps growing even if the car has been out of production for years now!
