Roach Coach xB
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Scion always has some of the most inventive (and goofy) cars at SEMA, and the Roach Coach, designed by Kenton Parker, is no exception. Based on catering truck, the xB will have a fridge, stove, sink, countertop area, oven and a large service window on the side. We will definitely hunt this one down at SEMA next month and get you some real life shots.

Find SEMA Show Cars on eBay
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
It’s getting pretty close to that SEMA time of year again, and that gets a lot of us hankering for an over-the-top show car. Finding them is easy: on eBay Motors, click the Advanced Search link, specify "Cars and Trucks" in the drop-down menu, enter "SEMA" as your keyword, and check the box for "Search title and description." Hit search and voila. Of course, it’s up to you to verify whether your matches were ever actually featured as SEMA show cars—this A-Team van, for example, clearly wasn’t. But the majority of the rides in there, like this Magnum that was featured at the ’06 show, seem to be the real deal. I suspect that this search will yield an increasing number of matches in the coming weeks as the sellers try to time their listings to cash in on the buildup to the 2008 SEMA show. Check out the current SEMA show-car listings!

Grabber Orange

I dig Grabber Orange Mustangs and Tom has a pretty sweet example. Be sure to check out GrabberOrange.net for more orange cars. I snapped these pics at SEMA in 2006: old Boss, new Boss. And it looks like Ford built a small number of 2008 Shelby GTs in Grabber Orange.

An Obsession With Pessimism
By Jeromy
Chebby Guy
1100 HP. Twin-turbo V8. AWD. Composite body. 2500 lbs curb weight. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Well, don’t run to your local supercar dealership just yet. Not only is the proposed "Obsession Exotic" going to cost you $300,000, it’s also a pipe-dream at this point.
Major problems with the new Obsession Exotic:
- The name "Obsession Exotic" is super-stupid. If you were filthy rich, would you plunk down $300K for something called "Obsession"?
- The company’s website is super-lame. Browse around and be awed with broken links, missing images, and typos galore. Just the thing to lure ultra rich clientele.
- The company sure doesn’t present itself very well in person. Take a look at this painful SEMA interview on SBTV.

Amphibous Car, Trucks, & ATVs
By Jeromy

Gibbs Technologies is going to introduce a whole line of amphibious vehicles in 2008-09. They include a cool amphibious SUV-thing that looks like a cross between a Hummer H2 and the Lamborghini LM002, a 2-door sports car that can go over 30 MPH on water, and a sweet ATV that converts to a personal watercraft with the flick of a switch. Pretty fun to read all about the Gibbs Technologies company, and SEMA has a interesting article about it too.

SEMA Rages Against the Machine
Posted by: Jen AKA SuzyBruisy |
Anyone who follows the CarDomain blog already knows that SEMA does more than throw a really cool party in Vegas every year. But were you aware that SEMA also fights for your rights? The SEMA Action Network functions as the associations political watchdog, monitoring state and federal legislative activity for proposed laws that target the automotive hobby. A lot of SAN’s resources go into battling the junk car laws that enable busybodies with too much time on their hands to hassle you for building or storing your own car on your own property. SAN has also consistently prevented the allocation of public funds for vehicle scrappage programs that encourage the destruction of older cars. They also fight obscure regulations that target specific mods such as brush guards and lighting kits. In short, SAN holds the line against the army of paper-pushing killjoys who are paid to dream up ways to put the smackdown on your ride. Take a look at their site to find out what outrageous legislation is currently on the books in your state.

CarDomain's 2006 SEMA Booth Vehicle on YouTube!
Posted by: John "Just Lucky to be Here" |
Wow, I don’t know how I missed this camera crew at SEMA! They were all over our booth, checking out Project Gotham and chatting with Jeff and Rueben about all the insane stuff they’ve done to it. How did I mange to not see this? I can’t believe … oh, wait. Now I remember. I spent most of the show holed up in the in the press room, updating our event coverage. That must be it. | ||

The Cobb WRX, the Super Stock Challenger, the 72 Nova Sleeper, the Castrol Top Tuner Solstice and the Extreme Dimensions Fit. Let me know what you think of my selections, and VOTE for your favorite. |

My Favorite Car at SEMA
Posted by: Rob Editor-in-Chief |
I didn’t get a photo at the time but this was my favorite car at SEMA. It was parked out front and my jaw dropped when I saw it. Id heard about this 72 Nova from our coverage of the Hot Rod Power Tour where it was a crowd favorite. Twin superchargers, 900HP, runs 9s all day long but it looks like something grandma would take to the drug store. Gotta love the dog dish hubcaps and ratty interior. Talk about the ultimate sleeper. Go to the Wheel to Wheel Powertrain site for full details on this car and tons of pics. A lot of work went into this thing. |

Yellow Cuda Club
Posted by: Rob
Editor-in-Chief
I got to meet a bunch of CarDomain members down at SEMA. I met Scott (right) who wrote our Hot Rod Power Tour story this summer. And I played a lot of phone tag with Mike (left) who was involved in the Overhaulin’ show (check out our Overhaulin’ feature here). Each time we tried to meet up something got in the way–Mike was either being kicked off the Overhaulin’ set or I was being dragged into a meeting. Maybe we’ll meet up next year. But these two guys have something in common besides being CarDomain members and their involvement on the Overhaulin’ show. They both have yellow Cudas. Mike has a 72 and Scott has a rare 70 440 6 BBL car. Check ‘em out.
