I Know SEMA's Over, But Damn!

I know that SEMA is over, but I couldn’t resist posting one more jaw-dropping ride. You may have the blingin’ rimz and the flashy paint job, but is your ride covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals? I didn’t think so. This DAD-prepped Mercedes SL600 took twenty people over three months to cover it from bumper to tailpipe in hand-glued crystals. Even the one-off DAD wheels had inlaid Swarovski crystals. The interior is, of course, covered in faux fur (at least I think it was faux). This bejeweled beauty was in the RAZO booth.

Clear Wheel Hype

Last week I posted about the clear D’Vinci Forgiato Radurra wheels shown at SEMA. My post got picked up by Engadget and even Auto Blog Italy. Chris from Streetfire decided to go and talk to D’Vinci a bit, and shot this cool little video.

We Came, We Saw, We Had a Blast

This is going to be my last blog entry from SEMA. We had a blast. Everyone loved Project Gotham and our little tC got mad props over in the Scion booth. Overall a huge success and we’re already talking about next year! At 6 PM the tC gets rolled out of the Scion booth and then we’re dropping it off with the local Make A Wish chapter. Then we all fly back to Seattle to rest up over the weekend. Oh, and one of our guys won $2,000 playing the slots last night. Pretty sweet.
The Mormon Meteor!

"Just Lucky to be Here"
I saw this car the first day of the show, and it blew me away. In 1940, it ran for 24 straight hours and averaged 161 MPH. Ten years later, it ran for a single hour and averaged 195 MPH. The car was hand-built by the legendary August Duesenberg and Ab Jenkins, a Mormon from Salt Lake City. It is the last Duesenberg ever built and has an absolutely fascinating history. Read the full story here.
Shiny Shelby

"Just Lucky to be Here"
At the show, you couldn’t get anywhere near this Shelby concept, and no stats were available on what kind of motor they’d put in it. Also, the finish makes it nearly impossible to photograph well. Do I care? Not at all. They could drop a Briggs and Straton into this bad boy, and I’d be happy to roll it. The people responsible for this display really should have been a little more on top of things thoughthis car looked dustier than mine. Guys, take a tip from Jay-Z. Get the dirt off this car’s shoulders, its not a rental Taurus.
One of Six

"Just Lucky to be Here"
This Volvo Caresto V-8 Speedster is one of six that will be made. Yup, six. The classic look is only skin deepit’s a mid-engine and has been converted to run on ethanol. I want one.
Jay Leno's Jet Car

"Just Lucky to be Here"
Tonight Show host Jay Leno worked with the design team at GM to build this car from the ground up. The frame is aluminum and the skin is all carbon fiber, so dry weight is like, three pounds. The jet engine came out of Coast Guard Helicopter, and was designed to lift thirty thousand pounds. Fast? You betcha.
Corvelle

This car blew me away. It’s a 67 Chevelle body on a 2006 Corvette C6 platform. It was built by West Coast Customs and sports some great looking 20" Asanti wheels.
