Just got back from the live unveil of the new SLS GT3 customer race car, which should be through the homologation process in time for next year’s race season. Looks pretty sweet, huh? More pics after the jump, including shots of the street car, which is now officially priced at $183,000.

Retrosexual: SLS GT3 Race Car

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

When I first saw the new SLS Mercedes I didn’t know quite what to think. If I’m honest with myself, it was one of those cars that I was unimpressed with at first glance and then with each new look it grew on me. Regardless of the SLS growing on me, I never really thought about it in the context of a race car. So when I saw the news that Mercedes was building a race version SLS I couldn’t even begin to imagine what to expect.

The SLS is obviously a very retro influenced car to begin with, paying homage to the classic 300SL gullwing. Most logic would say that mishmashing modern racing aerodynamic design on a retro influenced car would lead to massive style clash and lost identity. Yet the SLS GT3 in my opinion turned out to be extremely sexy! So sexy that it made me make up a new word to describe it, retrosexual. I think you would agree… See more pics at The Real JDM

Spied: Mercedes-Benz "SLS" Gull Wing Super Car

By Rich Truesdell

Automotive Traveler

It wasn’t as hot as it’s been on some of my recent trips to Death Valley—only 119 degrees—but that didn’t stop me from snagging a close-up look at the successor to Mercedes-Benz’s outgoing SLR, which some have dubbed the "SLS." What was so unusual, aside from the Viper-like cladding, was the cloaking around where the roof meets the back window. Strangely, the Mercedes-Benz engineers made absolutely no attempt to evade the camera—it’s almost as if they wanted me to get a good shot of the car! Maybe they just figured the "SLS" has already been photographed extensively on both sides of the Atlantic, and they’re trying to defer some buyers from the Audi R8? More text and pics after the jump.
