Hemmings Find of the Day: 1986 Mustang SVO
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Of all the special edition Mustangs that Ford has been trotting out in the last several years and that recall earlier Mustang variants (California Special, Boss 302, all the Shelbys), I don’t think Ford’s ever going to come up with another SVO-type Mustang, even with all the talk nowadays of installing smaller turbocharged engines in place of larger naturally aspirated engines. So will that make the existing Mustang SVOs, such as this 1986 Ford Mustang SVO for sale on Hemmings.com, more desirable? From the seller’s description:
1986 Ford Mustang SVO 86, black ext, grey int., RARE car Comp, prep, 83 made. 39000 km, canadian one, very nice, new tire, origninal car.

By Rob Einaudi

The guys at Garage 419 are reporting that the SVO Mustang will be back in a 2010. The new Stang will be 500 pounds lighter than the V8 GT, and will be powered by a 300 hp twin-turbo "EcoBoost" four-banger. Holy crap! More at Jalopnik.

UTCC Contender: the Rodent

You all know I like Fox bodies, and I love Mike’s SVO Mustang, which is currently near the top of the heap in the GRM UTC Challenge rating category. Mike says:
"I cant afford a dedicated racecar, and a fun street car, and a V8 ground pounding racer/driver would kill me at the gas pump. So, here is the compromise, Ford’s SVO 2.3 Turbocharged 4 cyl, it’s good on gas, but still able to run a decent lap at the local track, I can enjoy it on and off the track."
Mike built this car to compete in NASA’s American Iron class, and when he was done, he had the world’s first four banger car to compete in the class. How cool is that? I’m definitely hoping Mike makes the cut for the Ultimate Track Car Challenge at Buttonwillow.
