Conan O’Brien: 2010 Taurus SHO vs. 1992 Taurus SHO
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
In designing the new SHO, Conan accuses Ford Marketing Manager Amy Marentic of trying to “tinker with perfection.” Whatever you might think about the Taurus generally, the original SHO was a tough car. Marentic, who according to her bio made it her personal mission to resurrect the SHO since starting with Ford, seems to be pretty into it as well. Watch!

New Taurus Cop Car
By David Clarke

For the last several decades the Ford Crown Victoria has ruled the roost when it came to police-issued transportation. The only thing more antiquated than the 33-year-old “Panther” chassis it ran on might be the horses used by mounted police. So needless to say, this platform was long overdue for an upgrade. With more powerful and fuel-friendly competition out there already in the from of the Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Impala, Ford found it necessary to bring out their big new shiny gun: as of 2012, the Taurus will be the vehicle of choice for Ford’s Police Interceptor program. The base model police package will use the 3.5L v6 that puts out a respectable 263hp and 250lbft of torque. The pursuit vehicle, on the other hand, will be rocking all-wheel drive and the 365hp twin-turbo Eco Boost 3.5 found in the SHO. Beefed-up brakes, a recalibrated stability control system, and doors that swing 10 degrees wider are just a few of the amenities Ford included to make the Taurus more police friendly. See more pics below the jump.

Ugliest Taurus Ever!
By Alex Vickers
Katakuna
I think it’s fairly unanimous that this is the most butt-ugly, nightmare incurring custom Taurus ever. It totally kicks the balls of that Camry I posted in June, don’t you think?

Your Ride
Chris Borrelli
Modifying a 2001 Ford Taurus often presents its challenges, and often makes me a little more than angry. Setting aside all of that, I love my car. My car is literally my best friend. It’s something that I constantly think about, and spend a great deal of time with. The thing I like most about my car is that it is my way to just leave reality, leave all problems behind and not worry about anything. Everyone has a special reason they love their ride. What does your ride represent to you? Is your ride a haven from everyday troubles, or is it a way to show your personality?

Taurus Roundtable Dinner at Drive In Studios
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Last week Ford invited me to the Drive In Studios in Manhattan for “a night of dinner, drinks, discussion about the inspiration for the design of the 2010 Taurus.” Since J Mays and Earl Lucas were on the list, I readily accepted. Also, I think the new Taurus is pretty darn cool.
J Mays lead off with a short intro and then Earl Lucas (who designed the new Taurus) took over and did a full presentation on the car. I really liked the early sketches and clay models that he showed us, so I’ve included them after the jump.

Incredible SHO
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
The Ford Taurus SHO was a pretty cool sleeper car to begin with, but there’s nothing that’s inconspicuous about Ramon’s ’94. Check out his epic ride page (21 of them, actually), in which he documents the entire build. As usual, I’m a fan of the paint booth sequence on page 9 and 11. But the custom interior build and the engine compartment refresh are pretty cool, too.

Ford Taurus SHO vs. Pontiac G8 GXP: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Ford made headlines recently when they announced that the SHO is coming back. Pontiac has been in the news as well, though it hasn’t really been good news. Still, the G8 GXP is one of the hottest Pontiacs to come along in a long time, so we thought this would be a good match up. With the SHO you get AWD, a 365 hp twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.5-liter V-6, and your only option is the paddle-shift 6-speed auto. The G8 GXP is RWD, has a 415 hp 6.2 liter pushrod V8, and it’s available with a 6-speed manual tranny. Both cars come in right around $38k. So, which would you choose?

SHO vs. GTO
Atomicalex
Now that the new SHO is a reality, it’s time for a reality check. GM pretty much bombed the new GTO, which was too bad because it was a great car in spite of the baggage that the GTO name brought with it. So how does the new SHO stack up to its original? The new SHO keeps to the guidelines: high output V6, solid transmission, and a fancy leather interior, all set up as a trim package, just like the original (GTO). At the same time, the SHO doesn’t have to live up to a foggy flashback image, so there’s no confusion about what it’s supposed to be. Advantage: SHO. Face it, the SHO was the GTO of the 80s, and the new one is much closer to John DeLorean’s vision of a hopped up family car than GM’s snappy Holden rebadge was. I feel for GM, but Ford wins this round hands down. What do you think?
