Saudi Drifter Crashes Into Semi

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Look at that tire fly at 0:10! Performing the dangerous Saudi drift driving technique on the interstate, this drifter took the corner a little too sharp and ended up clipping the trailer of the semi. The rest of the drifting world better watch out for SA because these guys have no fear. Read more about Saudi drifting at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Roadside Find: A Laid Out 1998 Chevy Truck

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

The weekend before we headed off to the SEMA show, we were running errands on a Sunday morning and crossed paths with this bad ass, totally laid out Chevy truck. We’re thinking it is a 1998 as the 1999s were restyled. There’s a bunch of subtle stuff going on here that makes us think that this truck was a professional build.

One of the neat things that we missed at first is the removal of the stock body line that runs from the front to the rear on the sides of the truck. The slab sided look is cool, and the flat blue paint is cool and different. Flat black is pretty well played out, but this flat blue is working its mojo on us. Continue reading at BangShift.com

This Year's Barfiest Interior

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

“That has to be the barfiest interior,” Jen said when she saw the pictures of this truck. It might even top out the puke fest that was last year’s worst interior. The creation is supposed to be a mid-60′s Chevy truck, but is actually vintage-styled sheet metal over an 80′s Chevy truck. The interior, or what’s left of it, gave away this truck’s identity. More pics after the jump!

The 1979 Chevy K10's New Paint

By Sam Barer

Sound Classics

We’ve all heard the old standard “you get what you pay for.” Here at Sound Classics we’re using our 1979 Chevrolet K10 4X4 pickup as the guinea pig in testing if you can get more than you pay for with a cheap paint job—if you’re willing to do some prep work yourself.

The last installment detailed the four arm-wrecking days of sanding, Bondo, more sanding, priming, and more sanding on our 1979 Chevrolet K10 4X4 pickup. With this done it was time to hand it off to a cheap painter. Seeing an advertisement in the newspaper for a $199 special deal at Maaco in Lacey, we had our place.

As readers might recall, we already did a mock-up of how we wanted the truck to look. We printed out the “Sound Classics Virtual Paint Booth” (actually nothing more than a photo-chop) comp of the truck in black and silver and gave to the quote manager at Maaco.

The 1979 Chevy K10 Starts Its Striptease

By Sam Barer

Sound Classics

The restoration process on the 1979 Chevy K10 has officially begun. If you read the last installment, you know I already Photochopped a picture to establish what I want it to look like (black and silver two-tone), but now it’s time to get off the computer, get out the tools and implement the game plan.

The plan is pretty simple — something I’ve heard hundreds of times from other collectors: “just do the prep work yourself and then have Maaco spray it.” The premise actually makes sense. Maaco employs people who day-in and day-out use a steady hand to spray in the same quality booth as the high-price shops. Where they usually fail is in skimping on the bodywork and prep. So to get the best of both worlds, the collector does all the body work and prep and Maaco sprays. Sure, they also use cheap paint, but how much worse can it possibly be than 1979 Chevy OEM?

Okay, considering I’ve really never done serious bodywork or prep, there is some doubt to the results. It will either come out with a great bang-for-the-buck exterior or it will suck worse than Matt LeBlanc’s Friends spin-off.

Welcome to the Honeymoon Suite: the Log Cabin COE

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

I’ve been meaning for a while to highlight the extensive cab-over engine trucks thread on the H.A.M.B.—most flavors and styles of COEs are represented, from stock grain trucks to lowered hot rod haulers. One of the most unique COEs on there was recently posted by Josh Madsen, who said he spotted this Dodge COE with a log cabin bolted to the back in front of Mountain Ridge Motel and RV in Hatch, Utah (see it on Google Maps here), which Josh figured was set up as another hotel room. I’d stay in it! Continue reading over at Hemmings.

Goodman's Single Cab Deluxe

By Antonio Alvendia

Antonio Alvendia

The streets of Miami are filled with tons of high end, exotic cars. From South Beach to Star Island and Coral Gables to Downtown Miami, you can find Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Ferraris littering the streets – you literally see them parked on every street corner. The funny thing, though, is that while I constantly drive right past Lamborghinis with a bored look on my face, I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw this 1967 Volkswagen Single Cab (truck) cruising down the street. To be honest, I had never seen anything like it before. I just don’t see these types of cars every day!

When I saw this Volkswagen Single Cab driving down the street, I was already late to meet up with some friends from out of town who work for a big car magazine, but they would just have to wait a bit longer – this Single Cab had me buggin out because it has so much style. I just had to stop and shoot some photos! Check out the detailed photos and continue reading at MotorMavens.com.

GM to Halt Medium Duty Truck Production

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

General Motors Corp, which filed for bankruptcy protection a week ago, said on Monday that it would cease production of medium-duty trucks by July 31 after attempts to sell the operation failed. “After four years of working with multiple potential buyers, General Motors has decided to wind down its medium-duty truck operations,” the automaker said in a statement.

GM plans to cease production of Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC Topkick medium-duty trucks by July 31. The automaker sold about 20,000 of the vehicles last year, down from roughly 30,000 in 2007, as the U.S. economy sank into a deep recession. More at Reuters.
