This Just In: New on the Net
By John

Anyone who has ever done customer service knows that it sucks, and that people are terrible. This transcript on NotAlwaysRight.com is hilarious. Best line? "Your car might be there forever." Here’s the news:
- The egg chair was a hip piece of furniture back in the ’70s, and buying a high-quality one on eBay will cost you a pretty penny. Now a Chicago company is bringing it back, in the form of a child seat. Looks pretty rad, but is it safe? Auto Express
- Though the Tundra has a V8, fully boxed frame and is able to pull off all kinds of wicked stunts on TV, that didn’t help January sales. But Toyota isn’t worried, and says it’ll let Detroit take the lead on incentive programs. Ouch. Automotive News
- According to BMW, the X5 diesel hybrid it will unveil at the Geneva Motor Show will be as clean as a modern sedan. Let’s just not mention how much work modern sedans need. AutoWeek
- Sure, it ain’t easy being green, but it just might be cheap. In LA, GM is set to offer drivers E85 at .85 cents a gallon. That’s cheaper than a bottle of water! World Car Fans

Toyota Outstrips Ford in 2007
By Jen
Editor
In its unrelenting quest for total world domination, Toyota exceeded Ford in total sales for 2007, selling 48,226 more vehicles than the blue oval and becoming the No. 2 selling make in the US. Keeping, for now, its tenuous hold on the US market is GM, though industry forecasts hint that this won’t be for long, and that the US auto industry as a whole is soon to be beat at its own game as Toyota churns out Tundra pickups and sinks its money further into NASCAR. It’s sure to be an interesting next few years! Get the story at MSN Autos.

F-150 Still #1
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
The Ford F-150 maintains its #1 ranking on the Cars.com American Made Index, with 80% domestic content (the index takes total sales into account, so some vehicles with a higher domestic content, like the Silverado, are lower on the list). The Toyota Tundra moved up to the #4 spot, but the Camry fell off the list. More at Cars.com.
On another note, Branden’s Saleen F-150 (below) is pretty sweet!

New Hassle for Tundra Owners
By Jen
Editor
In the latest of a rash of recalls that have besmirched the reputation of Toyota’s all-new pickup, the company is warning owners of its 4WD 2007 Tundra of possible driveshaft malfunction. A rear driveshaft joint used in up to 16,000 of the vehicles was improperly heat-treated during manufacture, an oversight that could lead to joint failure and separation of the driveshaft. While no accidents have yet occurred, Toyota issued the recall after investigating an owner complaint about noise that turned out to be caused by the faulty joint. While the 16,000 trucks represent a relatively minor recall, the news comes after the Tundra has already been in hot water over faulty tailgates, torque-converters, and camshafts. It’s never easy working the bugs out of a completely redesigned platform, but automakers have found that straightforwardness about the realities of these growing pains is always preferable to pretending they don’t exist.
