Epic Bike Wreck
By Jen Dunnaway

In case you’re one of those people who always complains, “well that’s x minutes of my life I’m never going to get back,” I’m going to warn you: a hellacious wreck, and then a whole lot of nothing, happens in this video. But you kind of have to admire the guy for staying with the remains of his bike despite all the chaos around him.

Ghost Riding Makes CBS News
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
It turns out that one of our favorite things to make fun of is a “deadly teen trend.” The newscasters bring to bear families of dead kids, brain-damaged kids, and a whole slew of home videos that you’ve already seen right here in the blog, to make this crucial point: ghost riding the whip is a potentially fatal form of hoonage. If you didn’t already know this, take note.

This Just In: Winter is Coming!
Neuwerks
Now that we are at the beginning of Fall, it is time when many of us should start thinking about Winter. For a car enthusiast in the salt belt, we often start thinking about how to properly winterize our beloved summer toys, and begin planning the last few fun drives before we put them away. But what about our daily drivers, how many of you actually put proper winter tires on them, before the snow flies? After having run snow tires for over a decade, I don’t think I can ever switch back. Yes I can handle a set of decent all seasons, and like getting a little sideways, but I also like being able to out stop, out corner, and often out accelerate many other vehicles I share the road with. Having an unfair advantage is truly a nice thing in winter! Need help with finding the right tires, try this tire calculator.

Retro Hoonage

Though it’s easy to get caught up in all the YouTube videos of kids drifting in parking lots and so on, it goes without saying that people have been hooning cars for as long as there’ve been cars. Check out this vintage comp–it seems that driving through flaming walls of various construction was something of a yahoo’s holy grail back in the day.

The Slow Inevitable Death of American Muscle
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
I’d been consciously ignoring the attention-seeking “artist” who rigged up a machine to crush a series of perfectly decent muscle cars into each other last year, but I finally noticed a video of the destruction when it turned up on Streetfire. This member’s comment on the video much sums up my feelings on the issue: “I’d like to see a mushroom cloud in place of that museum.” What an idiotic waste.

Kick The Tires And Light The Fires
By Jen Dunnaway

I was at this hot rod party out in the cornfields of upstate New York once when this dude with flamethrowers on his ’55 Chevy backed up against a gasoline-saturated brush pile and lit it off. The detonation and resulting fallout left burn spots on primer, headers, and clothing alike, and it was a wonder it didn’t start a raging wildfire. This bunch of Euro hipsters sitting around an Ikea-perfect campfire and struggling to light it up with a two-stroke Trabant motor seems quaint by comparison, and a lot more safe. Cute, too.

Dad Saves Infant Son In Nasty Wreck
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
A father in Australia found himself in the path of an out-of-control vehicle with his baby son in his arms. The elderly driver reportedly had a heart attack at the wheel, and managed to send the father’s own parents and the baby’s empty stroller flying before plowing into a storefront. Dad just kept hanging onto the 4-month-old baby, and remained miraculously upright as he absorbed the impact of the crash and ended up pinned between the vehicle and a shattered store window. Miraculously, no one ended up with more than minor injuries. Watch the video below, and see a sensationalistic infotainment piece on the incident here.
