Spinning Like A Top
There’ll always be vehicles at SEMA that just kind of blow your mind, and for me, this spinning Chevy pickup was one of them. The guys at Z. Galena were nice enough to demo the tall truck’s capabilities, even though they’d apparently already caught some flack for doing just that. Clearly it’s not the most functional vehicle on the show floor, but hell, I figure anything capable of generating this much childish joy without even firing up is well worth the booth space. Enjoy.

Death of the Impulse Engine
By John Coyle
Editor
After a burly week in Sin City covering SEMA, I have to say it’s nice to be home in cold, rainy Seattle. The other thing that’s nice? Getting back to CarDomain HQ and seeing what y’all have been up to! And there couldn’t have been a better video to welcome me home. Brad put together a great little clip about his Impulse, and it genuinely warmed my heart. I loved the music, because it made me think of Christine—"how’d you hurt your back Arine?—but that doesn’t mean I believe the Impulse is evil. Enjoy.

Hummer On Tracks At SEMA
This was one of the vehicles I saw rolling out of the convention center at the end of the SEMA show. Hey, whatever else you might say about it, at least it can move under its own power—it’s not like every SEMA car can do that!

This Can't Be Good…

It’s a little terrifying how easily this tank completely pancakes this unfortunate Euro-box. Do you think that door is still useable?
100 MPG in 400 Horsepower Mustang?
By John Coyle
Editor
When we had out Bullit Mustang test car, fuel efficiency was the last thing any of the editorial staff was thinking about. But inventor Doug Pelmear claims that after some engine modifications, his ’87 Pony is getting 100MPG. Other than the fact that it runs on ethanol, there are no specifics, so I think I’m going to side with the skeptics over at Jalopnik and wait to see some proof before I freak out about this supposedly revolutionary car. Fortunately, Pelmear will be at SEMA, so I might get a chance to talk to him in person next week. Stay tuned.

Edmunds Pits the ZR-1 Against the GT-R
By John Coyle
Editor
This might not initially seem like the most fair match-up, given that the GT-R lists for $25 grand less than the ‘Vette. But in reality, buyers are probably going to pay close to $100K to get their hands on Godzilla, so price-wise, I don’t think this comparison is terribly unfair. Now, given the reams of positive press the GT-R has generated, I was really curious to see how it would fare in a head-to-head comparison with the General’s halo car. Would the GT-R’s suite of electronic nannies triumph over the ZR1′s brute force approach, or would raw power rule the day? Regardless, finding out must have been one hell of a good time, and the video of the showdown is awesome. Obviously, I’m not going to say which one came out on top. Head over to Edmunds and see for yourself.

Speeding Biker Nearly Nails Van, Crashes in Dirt
By John Coyle
Editor
The giant cloud of dust he kicks up makes it impossible to tell exactly how this biker fared, but he’s lucky he didn’t straight-up nail this van, or the car parked just past it. If the guy was wearing the right gear—he’s going a little too quick to tell—I think there’s a decent chance he walked away unscathed. Of course, if the genius rides like this regularly, there’s a pretty good chance he’s already dead.

If it Looks Too Good to be True…
By John Coyle
Editor
Since I’ve spent many hours cruising around Seattle looking for parking, I’ve learned to become overly suspect of totally empty parking lots. Generally, if there aren’t a least a few cars there, it’s because there’s a good reason. Of course, there’s a really great reason nobody is parked in this area, which becomes apparent immediately.

Meet the Beckers, Episode Two

Audi’s latest spot isn’t quite as funny as the first episode, but it’s still pretty good. Boy, do they make the BMW driver look like an idiot.

Ray Wert From Jalopnik on the Colbert Report
By John Coyle
Editor
Last night, our buddy Ray Wert appeared on the Colbert Report in a segment about Hummer enthusiasts—and he didn’t even get mocked! What a lucky bastard! Unless you hate America, you’ll probably find this clip pretty funny. If you do hate America, it’s only mildly amusing. Enjoy.
