2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR Breaks Laguna Record

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR driven by SRT engineer Chris Winkler shattered the production car lap record by more than one second at Laguna Seca. Ripping through the corners and accelerating down the straights, the scream of Dodge’s super snake could be heard as it shattered Laguna’s lap records. By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The Chevy actually put up a pretty good fight in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown, but at the end of the day, the Viper wins for being more exclusive and more insane. Stay tuned for another eBay Motors Showdown next week!

2009 LA Auto Show: Nest of Vipers in the Mopar Booth

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

When I went to SEMA for the first time, I was in charge of managing the photographer, and somehow he totally missed Mopar Alley. As you can imagine, this made Rob completely stoked. So when I have to cover any shows, I make sure to post some Mopar content as fast as I can. But I didn’t need any pressure to get a shot of this wicked Viper GTS R. Since you could eat off all the cars in the Convention Center, it’s kind of cool when you see one that’s dirty from being driven in anger. There were a bunch of other Vipers in the booth, including the new ACR, which just set a lap record at Laguna Seca. Hit the jump and check them out.

Viper vs. Vette: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok, so you got $50k burning a hole in your pocket and want a 500 hp sports car. Well then how about a Viper? Or maybe a Z06 Vette? This 2006 Viper SRT-10 comes with a 505 cubic inch V-10 which produces 500 hp and 525 pound-feet of torque. This 2008 Corvette Z06 packs a 427 cubic inch LS7 V-8 which produces 505 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque. The Vette has a bunch of electronic nannies to help keep you out of the ditch. The Viper… not so much. Both examples are low mileage cars and appear to be in excelling condition. Which would you choose?

Super Cuda: Can I Keep It? Pretty Please?

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

While Jen, Rob, Ryan and I were at dinner last night, we started talking about which ride we would keep if we could take any ride at SEMA. And while I’d be happy to have a 599 or a ZR1 in my garage, I was completely blown away by Legendary Motor Company’s stunning Super Cuda. It’s heart is a twin turbo Viper engine that’s making 1500 horsepower, and it’s been built to handle like a proper supercar. I loved how clean the interior was, and the carbon fiber floors made me almost lose it.  More pics after the jump.

Caught on Tape: Dodge Viper Wreck

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Watch as a Dodge Viper showboating for a Subaru Impreza with a camcorder rear ends a utility van. The two are zooming through traffic and then they are slowed down by congestion in their lane. The Viper thinks he can zoom off for an elated pull into stardom, but ends up in the back seat of a utility van. I guess he didn’t see the traffic in his targeted pull lane was at a complete stop. Ouch! Read more at Tampa Sports Car Examiner!

Viper Tears Up Closed Roads in the Alps!

By John Coyle

When Audi closed off nice twisty stretch of road in the Alps for a shoot, StreetFire member ViperRT10 took the opportunity to have a little fun with his favorite toy.  I’m guessing you’ve got to be a big shot to do something like this…

Just got this note in from the Twins Turbo crew:

“Guys, just a quick note. The Viper project we have been working on for the last year is up and running. Shane Tecklenburg has been on the DynaPack with the car all day and we are looking good to go. Results so far are 950 WHP and 806 TQ at 4 psi of boost.”

The Sniper Lives: Twin Turbo, Viper V10 Powered Mustang Caught on Tape!

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Call it project Sniper, project Nitemare, or just bat poop crazy, but Scott Vanderschoor’s twin-turbo, Viper V10 powered Mustang project has officially transitioned from garage-bound dream to functioning automobile status and we have the video to prove it.

The link was sent to us by Scott Clark (DieselGeek on the forums) who spends some of his spare time doing what he’s doing in this video, tuning and dialing in fuel injection setups on cars that range from fairly tame to, well, this.

Vanderschoor, it needs to be mentioned is a home builder, and he performed the work on every aspect of this amazing project. He’s been providing photo updates throughout the build on the BangShift.com forums.

This is a quickie video that shows the car’s first fire up and Clark establishing a baseline to have the car idle and behave itself well enough to get it onto the dyno rollers and really put the wood to that big V10.

Total Car Porn: GT3 Cars Battle in Italy

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

When I was covering American LeMans Series last year, I absolutely loved watching the GT1 and GT2 classes race, and this GT3 clip from Italy makes me miss being at the track. Of course, it’s awesome to see the ‘Vettes, Vipers, Astons and Ferraris on the grid, but I’m particularly stoked to see Lamborghinis being driven in anger. We may never know for sure why Ferruccio never fielded his Raging Bulls, but you have to admit, they look gorgeous in racing livery. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; there’s nothing sexier than an exotic car stripped of its niceties and turned into a race machine. Great work on this footage SpeedHunters!
