Throw this one in the category of cars you don’t expect to run into at a NASCAR race–this bizarre vee-dub was randomly parked off to the side in the garage area at Fontana on Sunday, probably one of the pre-race parade vehicles. It had a dual-carbed V8 fitted into the not-very-functional pickup bed. Interesting choice for a ute conversion. More pics below the jump!

384 Hours of LeMons, Here We Come!

Scirocket II did not have the best outing in the April LeMons race at GingerMan, racking up more penalties than were technically permissable. Somehow, we managed to get back on track and finish the race. In anticipation of what might happen in the two upcoming midwest races in October, Chief Perp Jay Lamm picked ten teams to document their experiences in the back-to-back 384 Hour challenge with a super-cool LeMons FlipCam. We made the cut, presumably in the “least promising” category: it seems these guys might have had some bad experiences with VWs in general! We’re taking this mission to heart – I’ll be linking over the vids as the LeMons crew get them posted!

Just a Slight Clunk Says Mom!

I am at a loss for words. My mom, who is actually quite mechanically minded for the most part, called to tell me her 94 Jetta was making a slight clunk sound when turning at low speed, and that it also had a strange front end bounce. I took a quick test drive, and noted what felt like a bad strut, and seized strut tower bearings. Little did I know that we had a slightly bigger problem!!

The things I see in Florida never stop to amaze me. Someone in my county blended the back of a Volkswagen Beetle with the front of a motorcycle to create a VW cycle. I was so astounded by this vehicle, I had to capture it and show it to you! Is this wild or what? Read more about the VW motorcycle at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Aircooled Golf

For anyone who says that the VW scene is boring and predictable, how does this grab you? It’s a MKIII Golf which is now running an aircooled engine which can be found where the groceries used to sit. Now, I’m no expert but I can’t imagine too many scenes where somebody would move the engine from front to rear and even fewer where someone would replace an arguably faster, more reliable engine with an older, slower one.
