Mustang Alley

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

It’s kind of nice not to be owned by the government. You get to have a say in how your promotional dollars are spent. This works great for Ford, who continued their long-standing tradition of taking over 9 Mile in Ferndale for the Woodward Dream Cruise. Full complements of Ford staff were on hand, displaying everything from one-off Mustangs to the new Lincoln MKT. Ford’s reconstituted SVT team and the Ford Racing program were in the loop, both having significant exhibits of new wares. Representatives from both groups were very positive about their futures. The star of the show wasn’t a Mustang, though. It was a new Taurus SHO decked out in law enforcement gear. This could be a new market for Ford’s hi-po large sedan…. Do I smell a replacement for the Crown Vic? More pics after the jump!

1937 Pirsch

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

My friend Tim has a few cool cars, including a Tropic Orange VW GTI and a Vanagon with a VR6 conversion. But the coolest of all is his 1937 Pirsch fire truck. He took me and my sons out for a ride on Woodward during the Dream Cruise last weekend. It’s kind of hard to not feel awesome when you’re eight feet up in the air and ringing the fire bell! It’s retired from the Rainbow, PA fire company and the original Hale fire pump still works to specification. Check out some more pics after the jump.

Cool Treats: 63 Fairlane

By Katherine Helmetag

Summertime in Detroit doesn’t get into full swing until the cool people start bringing the cool cars out for cool treats: drive-in ice cream shops dot Woodward and attract car nuts from all over. I swung by the Dairy Mat in Birmingham after Little League last week and spotted Brett and his 1963 purple Ford Fairlane Sports Coupe. It’s got a 302 in it and makes a ton of good noise. I snapped a couple of pics before he made some smoke pulling out. Check them out after the jump.

CarDomainTV: Milan Dragway

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

During the Woodward Dream Cruise earlier this month, Milan Dragway offered a free test and tune session to Dream Cruise participants. We sent Dennis Kreish out there to capture some of the action, and the footage he delivered did not disappoint. The ’41 Willys is absurd…

Woodward Dream Cruise Pics Now Live!

By Katherine Helmetag

AKA atomicalex

A solid hour of classics and customs paraded down 12 Mile in Berkley, MI on Friday night. I was holed up at Milano’s Hair Salon, one of the many businesses that hosts parties during the Dream Cruise weekend. Though Berkley’s finest chased me out of the road a few times, I was able to snag some decent shots. Head on over to the Events section for a peek at some of the vintage iron that led off the weekend’s festivities!

Coolpacer at Woodward!

By Katherine Helmetag

AKA atomicalex

CarDomain member Coolpacer warned me that his dad would be showing off their 1978 AMC Pacer project in Ferndale, MI as part of the Woodard Dream Cruise festivities. And sure enough, John Allen, Coolpacer’s dad, was on hand to give me and my sons a tour of their blacked-out, hopped-up AMC. The custom dash they built caught my attention—it’s got everything you need to keep things cool when you’re running hot. Their build pages have tons of detail about the car and the time they’ve spent together on it. The only thing missing from this ride is a CarDomain sticker! More Pacer pics after the jump, and don’t forget to check out the ride page.

Woodward: Warming Up For The Cruise!

By Katherine Helmetag

AKA atomicalex

I snuck out for a bit at lunch today to get snarled up in the coolest traffic jam in the US: the Woodard Dream Cruise. Although it doesn’t officially start until Saturday morning, the tents were already up and cruisers were out snarling traffic and showing off. Originally conceived in the late 90s as a celebration of automotive culture from the 50s and 60s, the Dream Cruise has morphed into an all-weekend run-what-ya-brung rolling car show for anything on wheels. The Cruise attracts people from all over the world who want to drive their cars on Detroit’s mother road. I’ll be at the Berkely Cruisefest Parade tonight and up and down Woodward tomorrow, paying special attention to the club tents. If you’re going to be at the Dream Cruise, post up so I can try to find you! See some more pics after the jump.

Woodward Dream Cruise Pics

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

John was begging for Woodward pics but no one came through. I found some great pics over at Tercelonline.com (like the Hemi-powered Big Wheel below). Michigan Mopar Muscle Car Club has some good pics, too. If you guys have more links to Woodward pics, post them in the comments below.
